While questioning former FTX CTO Gary Wang, both the government and defense lawyers brought up a tweet posted by FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried on Nov. 7, 2022. At the time, the crypto exchange was experiencing a rush of customer withdrawals.
“FTX is fine. Assets are fine,” Bankman-Fried said in the tweet. Wang told the government prosecutor that he thought the tweet was “misleading” because depending on how you define “assets,” FTX didn’t have enough money to satisfy customer withdrawals. Bankman-Fried deleted the tweet soon after posting.
