Ahead of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the University of Louisville remembers Dr. King’s visit to the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville Allen Court Room on March 30, 1967. The powerful and humble speaker offered UofL his perspective to an overflowing room on the topic of open housing laws in Louisville. His compassion and advocacy for civil rights will never be forgotten. Dr. King visited Louisville many times to support fair housing demonstrations and local activists including Mattie Jones, Anne Braden, Ruth Bryant and his brother Rev. A.D. Williams King. UofL community members will be volunteering tomorrow with The UofL Engage Lead Serve Board (ELSB) for an MLK Day of Service event. To volunteer, sign in at the Student Activities Center (SAC) or travel to Love the Hungry on Fern Valley Road at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Monday, January 15th. The Black Law Students Association and Brandeis School of Law will be holding a screening tomorrow of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech, “I Have a Dream." The screening will be held at 11:45 a.m. at the Muhammad Ali Center. Participants should meet in the lobby to be directed to the theater, admission is free. Hevin Ramsey, a Woodford R. Porter Scholar, worked at UofL's independent student newspaper, The Louisville Cardinal, and as a student assistant at University of Louisville Libraries. She earned a bachelor of fine arts from the Hite Institute of Art and Design in the University of Louisville College of Arts & Sciences. “Paring narratives with imagery greatly influenced my BFA track,” Ramsey said, “which solidified my love for UofL. If I had not gone here, I would have never met Mary Carothers or participated in the PhotoVoice project. It was an experience I will never forget.” #UofLGrads2023
