Localizing Humanitarian Response Strengthening Local organizations and Leadership in the region

The Asian Preparedness Partnership (APP) was established through a partnership between Asian Disaster Preparedness Center and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for improving the preparedness and emergency response to disasters in Asia by strengthening humanitarian leadership and technical capacity of national and sub-national governments, local humanitarian and non-governmental organizations, and the private sector networks so that they can lead and better engage in the humanitarian framework.

Enhancing capacities of the most vulnerable in society

ADPC launched a five-year multi-stakeholders program──Building Resilience through Inclusive and Climate-adaptive Disaster Risk Reduction in Asia-Pacific (BRDR). With an aim of protecting development gains and enhancing regional cooperation for inclusive and gender-equal risk reduction approaches, the BRDR program is supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and implemented jointly by ADPC, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute (RWI). Nepal, Papua New Guinea and the Philippines are the BRDR’s pilot countries.

ADPC attends the observance of International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) and ASEAN Day for Disaster Management in Ha Long, Viet Nam

ADPC attends the observance of International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) and ASEAN Day for Disaster Management at Bai Chay Secondary School in Ha Long, Viet Nam. This event was organized by the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (ADDMA) of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on 13 October 2023 in collaboration with the Australian Embassy in Hanoi. This was attended by the ministers and senior officials of Disaster Management organizations in the ASEAN region, ASEAN Secretariat and international organizations.

ADPC attends the 19th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage associated with Climate Change Impacts.

The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) took part as an observer in the 19th session of the Executive Committee (EC) of the Warsaw International Mechanism (WIM) for Loss and Damage organized by UNFCCC, in Bonn, Germany from 19 to 22 September 2023.

ADPC facilitated and hosted the kick-off meeting of the second phase of the Bangladesh Preparedness Partnership (BPP) Program on 12 September 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand. Under the leadership and guidance of the Ministry of Disaster Management & Relief (MoDMR), Bangladesh, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the kick-off meeting was attended by various sectoral organizations as part of the BPP partnership.

ADPC launches iCARE Innovations Fund

Over 100 participants, including government officials, United Nations agencies, civil society and non-government organizations, private sector, and innovators joined ADPC's hybrid side event on 'Targeting Transformative Adaptation for Riskier Times: Innovation in Climate Adaptation and Resilience in Asia' at UNESCAP's Fourth Disaster Week from 24-27 July 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand. 


ADPC also launched the new phase of the iCARE Innovations Fund to foster climate resilience and adaptation innovations by facilitating transformative, affordable, and accessible climate solutions. Using and creating data and analytics will advance the South Asia Region's decision-support systems, guidelines, standards, innovation, and co-creation.
