As a video discussion app, the camera is at the heart of the Microsoft Flip experience — it's how community members tell stories and share perspectives. Flip wanted to incorporate augmented reality as a new way to engage and inspire their community of educators, learners, friends, and families.
Camera Kit immediately upleveled Flip’s AR capabilities by providing their community with new tools for creativity, expression, and education. With Camera Kit, Flip delivers custom Lenses developed specifically to enrich the educational experience directly through the camera. These AR Lenses are inspired by the Flip community and teach new skills — like an ASL Lens that utilizes Snap’s advanced hand tracking technology to teach the basics of fingerspelling.
The streamlined AR development and distribution process between Lens Studio and Camera Kit enables Flip to ship monthly expressive Camera drops for their community across key cultural moments like Earth Day and Black History Month. They’ve built a series of more than 80 Lenses in Lens Studio to date, with Lenses optimized towards a variety of high and low end devices.
Microsoft Flip took advantage of the cross platform nature of Camera Kit and integrated AR across their native iOS and Android application and website. After integrating AR on the web through Camera Kit, they saw a 60% increase in their community completing videos.
