Communicable, maternal, perinatal and nutritional conditions

Deaths from infectious diseases are grouped together with deaths of women and newborns that were related to pregnancy and birth and deaths from insufficient nutrient intake. These causes of death are more common in less wealthy countries -- the same countries that do not collect comprehensive data on deaths and their causes. Thus, most deaths in this category are not captured by the WHO mortality database.
