Shia LaBeouf backs out of 'Rock the Kashbah'

The latest move in Shia LeBeouf’s quest to stop being famous appears to be pulling out of the all-star comedy Rock the Kasbah.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 27-year-old has amicably parted from the film, which is set to star Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Danny McBride, Zooey Deschanel, and Kate Hudson. Representatives for LaBeouf did not respond to EW’s requests for comment.

The Barry Levinson movie centers on an aging rock manager who travels to Afghanistan for a USO tour and winds up representing a young girl competing on a Middle Eastern version of American Idol. LaBeouf was to have a supporting role.

The actor’s departure from the film follows a bizarre string of events in which he has attempted to distance himself from Hollywood. After accusations of plagiarism, LaBeouf hired an airplane to sky-write an apology; staged a performance piece in Los Angeles titled #IAMSORRY (which was criticized for bearing resemblance to other artists’ work); daily tweeted the phrase “I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE”; and walked out of a press conference for Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac, only to appear on the red carpet later that night wearing a paper bag over his head with the words “I am not famous anymore” scrawled across it.

While LaBeouf is not currently linked to any other projects as an actor, he will appear in the Brad Pitt-led World War II movie Fury, slated for a Nov. 14 release.
