Health Evidence Network (HEN)

A catalyst for WHO’s mandate to generate evidence

Recognizing that public-health, health-care and health-system policy-makers need access to timely, independent and reliable health information for decision-making, WHO/Europe launched HEN in 2003.

Synthesizing the best available evidence in response to policy-makers’ questions

Drawing on evidence from different disciplines and both peer-reviewed and grey literature, HEN synthesis reports summarize what is known about a particular policy issue to produce a compendium of good practices for making policies, processes, procedures and regulations more culturally appropriate, effective, people-centred and user-friendly for policy-makers.

Award-winning HEN synthesis reports

The HEN report on arts and health won the 2019 Global Aesthetic Achievement of the Year award from the Finnish Society for Aesthetics, while the HEN report on the use of narrative research in the health sector received the “Highly commended” recognition in the public health category of the prestigious British Medical Association (BMA) Medical Book Awards in 2017.

HEN synthesis reports are indexed in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) register. Reports published since 2015 are available via the link. For more information about the HEN series, please contact [email protected] .
