It’s Round 3 for this acclaimed series, Untold, where controversial sports figures talk — sometimes exhaustively — about the line between their fame and infamy. “Our athletes know we’re offering an unvarnished view,” says Maclain Way, who exec produces alongside his brother Chapman. “And they know they’ll have no say in the final edit.” The latest roster is an ambitious one. Take Jake Paul, the internet star who raked in millions on his way to becoming among the most hated YouTubers, thanks in part to accusations of scamming fans. Paul later counterpunched with a successful career in professional boxing. As he claims in Jake Paul the Problem Child (recently available), “This is a story of a kid who lost himself; boxing saved his life.” Similar confessions come in Johnny Football (recently available) from Johnny Manziel, who, as a Texas A&m quarterback 11 years ago, was a Lone Star State hero.

Could Daisy Jones & the Six go the way of other “limited” series and get a second season? Married couple Lauren Levy Neustadter and Scott Neustadter, two of the executive producers of the Prime Video musical drama, tell Variety in a new interview that they’re open to the idea. “If any time Amazon came to us and said, ‘What would it be?’ we would put our little thinking caps on about it,” says Lauren, president of film and television at production company Hello Sunshine. Scott, who developed the book for the screen alongside Michael H. Weber, adds, “It’s super fun to sit and talk to Taylor [Jenkins Reid, author of the book Daisy Jones & the Six] for hours about where we think we could take this next. It was a calculated move to move [the flash forwards] to their 40s. There’s a lot of life left to live, so there could be a future.” Meanwhile, the...

“The West Wing” gave Rob Lowe one of the most iconic TV roles of his career when he suited up to play White House communications staffer Sam Seaborn on Aaron Sorkin’s hit drama. But despite the show’s success, Lowe opted to walk away from the cultural phenomenon in Season 4 amid rumors of tense salary negotiations. While he has never told the full story of the circumstances that prompted him to leave, the actor doesn’t seem to have any regrets about the decision.
In a new appearance on the Podcrushed podcast, Lowe recalled the behind-the-scenes drama that led him to exit the series. While he declined to share specifics about what forced him out of the role, he empathized that a show’s quality and popularity is no guarantee that its actors are having a positive experience.

Not many gay rom-coms start with a diplomatic incident, but Red, White & Royal Blue certainly does. The Prime Video movie (now streaming) — based on the bestselling book by Casey McQuiston — stars Taylor Zakhar Perez as American first son Alex Claremont-Diaz and Nicholas Galitzine as U.K. royal Prince Henry, two men whose long-running feud boils over in spectacular fashion at a royal event. “Going into damage control mode, their powerful families and respective handlers force the two rivals into a staged ‘truce,’” Prime Video teases. “But as Alex and Henry’s icy relationship unexpectedly begins to thaw into a tentative friendship, the friction that existed between them sparks something deeper than they ever expected.” And once you’re done swooning over that transatlantic tale, check out the LGBTQ+ rom-coms below, all of which are currently streaming. As part of the SAG-AFTRA strike against the AMPTP, cast members from Parks and Recreation reunited on the picket line outside the Amazon Studios offices in Culver City, California, on Friday. Representing the 2010s-era NBC workplace sitcom at the protest were series regulars Aubrey Plaza(April Ludgate), Adam Scott (Ben Wyatt), Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson), Retta (Donna Meagle), Jim O’Heir (Jerry Gergich). Plaza and Retta both carried picket signs referencing Parks and Rec storylines. Plaza’s read, “Ann Perkins works for the AMPTP,” a nod to April’s frenemy on the show, played by Rashida Jones. Retta’s sign, meanwhile, read, “I sold that little red thing for health insurance,” referencing a slinky outfit Donna mentions on the show. #Wgastrong pic.twitter.com/Vc2MmpzX0w — WGA Board Candidate Jonterri Gadson (@JaytotheTee) August 11, 2023 Joining those cast members on the picket line were various guest stars from Parks and Rec...

Making “Daisy Jones & the Six” was more than just another show for Scott Neustadter and Lauren Neustadter: It was a family affair.
Scott and his writing partner, Michael Weber (both Oscar nominated via their screenplay for the film “The Disaster Artist”), received an early copy of the “Daisy Jones” manuscript, written by author Taylor Jenkins Reid, before it even found a publisher. Neustadter, a music junkie, immediately fell in love with the script, and knew the perfect home for it: Reese Witherspoon’s company Hello Sunshine — where his wife, Lauren, had just joined as president of film and television.

In hopeful news for the film and TV business, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) have resumed negotiations that may end one of Hollywood’s two simultaneous strikes. On Friday, August 11, the two sides met to continue bargaining for the first time since the start of the WGA strike on May 2, and the AMPTP offered the WGA a counterproposal. “Your Negotiating Committee received a counterproposal from the AMPTP today,” the WGA told members on Friday evening, per Deadline. “We will evaluate their offer and, after deliberation, go back to them with the WGA’s response next week.” Talking points in the WGA strike — now more than 100 days old — include streaming residuals, pay raises, artificial intelligence use, and the practice of “mini-rooms” in lieu of full-fledged writers’ rooms. The WGA, however, didn’t go into specifics about the current discussions at the negotiating table.

Two decades ago, Civic Development Group put a lot of people to work who couldn’t find it anywhere else. The telemarketing company employed high school dropouts, convicted felons, and drug addicts, many of whom felt as though they’d found their calling at a company that incentivized them to unwittingly participate in a high-stakes grift.
As they juggled calls on behalf of policemen unions and other charitable organizations, inadvertently duping gullible targets into opening their wallets, they had no idea how little money actually went to the organizations themselves. In truth, CDG was making a killing, keeping 90 percent of all donations — while its staffers treated the office as a hedonistic playground.

This inspires Sam to pick up his phone, calling Graham, whose ringtone happens to be Outlander‘s theme music, “The Skye Boat Song.” When Sam suggests they follow up on their previous adventures, Graham is open to it but reminds his pal that he’s now halfway around the world in New Zealand. There may be quite a bit up in the air about the world of Yellowstone right now — which was true before the writers’ and actors’ strikes halted production across Hollywood — but the first half of Season 5 did end (back on January 1 of this year!) with Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Jamie (Wes Bentley) ready to make some serious moves. To put it mildly, Beth was none too pleased to learn that Jamie was calling for her father, John (Kevin Costner), currently the governor, to be impeached. Her reaction was pure Beth: “That motherf**ker” and breaking into his home. She hit him, threatening to expose his disposal of his father’s body, only for him to reveal all about the “train station,” a.k.a. where all the bodies of the family and ranch’s enemies are. He’s a stranger in a very strange land. In The Walking Dead’s latest spinoff series, a fan favorite, crossbow-wielding American Southerner Daryl Dixon, finds himself in Paris. But the City of Light is flickering and filled with the dead. How he winds up overseas is still murky (he does spend a portion of his trip across the Atlantic floating on shipwrecked debris), but once he’s there, he certainly won’t have time to try on berets or munch on any baguettes. In the six-episode first season (the action drama has already been renewed for a second round), Daryl is tasked with protecting and delivering 11-year-old Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi) from the boy’s convent home to a mysterious new locale. Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family, the entities responsible for the creation of OxyContin and its subsequent addiction epidemic, seem to finally be facing consequences. On Thursday, August 10, the Supreme Court blocked Purdue Pharma’s bankruptcy deal that would settle the scores of civil lawsuits against the pharmaceutical company, which has been evading legal persecution for its alleged role in the U.S. opioid crisis for decades. Painkiller, a six-part scripted limited series tracking the origins of the crisis and that evasion, premiered on Netflix the same day. Then a teenager, Lipman-Stern recorded everything: The aggressive sell he and his colleagues made over the phone to solicit donations for what the callers claimed were police charitable unions, as well as the freewheeling culture that permeated throughout the office. Closer to the present day, he and co-director Adam Bhala Lough reconnect...

According to vampire lore, psychic vampires have walked among us for centuries, a fact that’s made all the more terrifying by their ability to move about in the daylight. These creatures don’t suck blood or turn into bats — they drain their victims’ vitality. In recent years, What We Do in the Shadows’ Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) has become the spokesperson for this particular species, making the more colloquial descriptor of “energy vampire” a known phrase. Now there’s evidence that an even more high-profile energy vampire might be out in the open: beloved actor John Slattery.

The latest 90 Day Fiancé spinoff, 90 Day: The Last Resort, is set to premiere next Monday, August 14, and we already know some juicy details regarding one of the couples. In a new clip shared by ETOnline, fan-favorite couple Asuelu and Kalani open up to a group of therapists about their relationship problems. We see the other castmates’ shocked reactions as Kalani reveals there have been “issues with infidelity” and that they’re trying to work things out for their family. An emotional Asuelu then breaks into tears as he basically admits to cheating on Kalani. “I know what I did is really bad,” he confesses. “And I feel like the reason why we are here is because of me. Back in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1, Spock’s (Ethan Peck) half-brother, Sybok, was mentioned and glimpsed. But since then, he has yet to show up (and all of Season 2 is now streaming on Paramount+), though clearly, that was a tease for him to be a (future) major problem. “It is something we have been discussing. We had a lot to do this season. We couldn’t do everything we wanted to. And sometimes when you’re only doing 10 episodes, you don’t quite get to do every story that you want to, but everything we set up, we set up for a reason, is what I will say,” executive producer Henry Alonso Myers tells TV Insider. But bringing Sybok back in Season 2 wasn’t necessarily the plan, adds executive producer Akiva Goldsman. Rather, it’s one of those “setups that we know we want to pay off over time.

Jeopardy! is currently in the middle of summer re-runs and fans are falling in love all over again with Rowan Ward. Ward, a non-binary contestant from Chicago, Illinois, first appeared on Season 37, where they gave super-champ Matt Amodio a run for his money during his impressive 38-game winning streak. Ward received another shot in the Second Chance tournament, winning the second round and landing a spot in the Tournament of Champions. Despite being eliminated from the Toc in the quarter-finals, Ward remained a fan-favorite, and now that their episodes are re-airing, viewers have been reminded of why they fell in love with the Chicago-based writer and editor in the first place. “I don’t think I’ve seen a happier contestant than them,” one fan wrote on the Jeopardy! Reddit forum. “Rowan made for great TV. I also love how well everyone is able to use they/them without any issues,...

After 18 years at BAFTA, Krishnendu Majumdar is having trouble switching off.
It’s been almost two months since the media executive, who recently won a BAFTA for producing the Kate Winslet-led Channel 4 drama “I Am Ruth,” finished his three-year term as chair of the British Academy, handing over the reins to agency boss Sara Putt. But it took a minute, he says, to stop going on high alert every time he clocked a buzzy topic that BAFTA might be asked to comment on.

Television endgames are never easy to get right, especially when taking the lead from existing source material. But that is made infinitely more challenging when that source material isn’t finished. It happened with the much-maligned series finale of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Series creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss had to reconcile the deadsprint to their ending with what they knew was to come in George R. R. Martin’s still-incomplete book series A Song of Ice and Fire.

HGTV star Tarek El Moussa is building a 138-unit apartment building on a plot of land in Los Angeles, but the current tenants living in the area are not happy about it. The area in North Hollywood is currently occupied by ten bungalows, five dingbat apartments, one single-family house, and additional burned-out buildings. A number of tenants previously told the Los Angeles Times that El Moussa is evicting them so that he can knock down the properties and build the new apartment complex. Last Friday, August 4, El Moussa released a statement on Instagram addressing the situation, claiming that the current owner (Arthur Aslanian) served the eviction notices, not him or his partners of the NoHo 138 project. “Please let me clear something up regarding a new project. I am one of the partners of NoHo 138 working on purchasing the Hartsook property in North Hollywood for redevelopment,” the reality star wrote. “Even...

Bethany Joy Lenz is penning a memoir that will delve into the ten years she spent in a cult and how cast and crew of her show One Tree Hill helped rescue her. The actress, who sprang to fame on Guiding Light, opened up about some of the details in a new interview with Variety, saying that it was a “Bible-based cult” that operated on isolating its members from their friends and family. She didn’t escape the cult until “shortly after” One Tree Hill ended in 2012, but she explained that her co-stars tried to help her. “For a while, they were all trying to save me and rescue me, which is lovely and so amazing to be cared about in that way. But I was very stubborn,” Lenz said. “I was really committed to what I believed were the best choices I could make.” She continued, “The nature of...

Earlier this week, Big Brother contestant Luke Valentine was removed from the house for using the N-word, which was picked up by the cameras on the show’s 24/7 live feed. Thursday’s (August 10) episode addressed the situation, showing the moment producers called Valentine to the Diary Room and the subsequent reaction of his fellow houseguests upon his removal. Contestant Reilly Smedley delivered the news to the rest of the house, reading a note provided to her by the show’s producers. “Due to violating the Big Brother code of conduct by using a racial slur, Luke has been removed from the house and will no longer be participating in the Big Brother game,” Smedley read. “The game goes on and the live vote and eviction will continue as scheduled.” The shocked players then discussed the situation, with Cory Wurtenberger trying to explain what happened. “It was directed toward me in a very casual,...

The latest episode of “Big Brother” has addressed the removal of contestant Luke Valentine following his use of the N-word during a Paramount+ live feed. This controversy unfolded just one week into the start of Season 25.
Valentine used the racial slur during a casual conversation with other contestants Jared Fields, Cory Wurtenberger and Hisam Goueli. After dropping the slur at the end of a sentence, he seemed immediately aware of his on-camera faux pas. He covered his mouth, laughed and quickly said “dude” instead, while his fellow contestants stared at him. The moment can be watched here.

Amazon-owned Prime Video has launched “The Killing Vote,” a hardboiled crime drama series from Korea.
The 12-part show uses the premise that a text message is sent to ordinary citizens who get to vote for or against the application of the death penalty in individual criminal cases. If more than 50% vote in favor, the criminal is killed by a mysterious character called Dog Mask.
That in turn creates difficult choices for police officers. They may have differing views on whether such rough justice is justified or not and are also tasked with tracking down Dog Mask.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “What We Do in the Shadows” Episode 6, “Urgent Care.”]
“What We Do in the Shadows” has never taken pleasure in withholding information from the audience — quite the opposite. Early seasons peeled back vampire lore and unveiled the vampiric council. Season 4 focused on Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) as the baby which crawled out of his chest cavity grew into… another Colin Robinson. The Season 5 premiere, after some excellent teasing, answered the question of whether or not Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) had been turned into a vampire, while Episode 3 revealed more about energy vampires with a dazzling guest cast.
Season 5, Episode 6 offers yet another intriguing tidbit about modern-day vampiric existence: familiar urgent care. It’s less legitimate and effective than vampiric bureaucracy, but hey — they’re just familiars. As Guillermo’s vampirism becomes harder to hide, viewers are let in on the secret while the other vampires — especially Nandor (Kayvan Novak) — remain in the dark.
