Adipurush, the much-awaited film of Telugu superstar Prabhas, has hit theaters across the world. The mythological drama is a retelling of the Hindu epic, Ramayan. In the film, helmed by Om Raut, Prabhas plays Lord Ram, Kriti Sanon stars as Sita, Sunny Singh is Lakshman and Saif Ali Khan plays the role of Ravan.
The film is made on an enormous budget of Rs 500 crore. After its advance bookings opened on Sunday, the film did a business of Rs 12 crore. The national theatre chain PVR sold over one lakh tickets in the Hindi market itself and trade analysts are expecting a huge opening at the ticket counters across the country.
Film trade analyst Girish Johar pegged the film’s opening day collection at Rs 50 cr, including all languages. Speaking about the craze around Ramayan among Indians, film trade expert Taran Adarsh said, “For me, the most important thing is not Prabhas, Kriti Sanon or Saif Ali Khan. For me, it is Ramayan, and it is a very strong emotion. Everything else is secondary,” he states, while agreeing that many Indians watching the film will resonate with his emotion.” New reports suggested that the first day collection can be even higher, and may eclipse Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan’s first day collection.
Adipurush is the story of Lord Ram, whose wife Sita was kidnapped by the evil Ravana. He took the help of the vanara army and brought her back with him to Ayodhya. Kriti recently opened up about portraying the role of Janaki (Sita) in the retelling of Ramayana. She said that the scale and magnitude of Om Raut’s directorial is massive and the film is going to be a “visually spectacular experience” for the audience. However, she also shared that she used to jokingly tell the director that she’s shooting for her “biggest film on the smallest set,” as the entire film is shot in a studio.

Twitter user Venky Reviews wrote, "#Adipurush Overall a retelling of the Ramayanam that had a promising 1st half but falls flat in the 2nd half and ends up being tiresome towards the end! The first half focused on the drama which worked, but the 2nd half didn’t have much other than a prolonged climax fight with poor VFX. Music saves the film in many parts. Ends up as a mediocre watch."

In an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Devdatta Nage, who plays Hanuman in Adipurush, said, 'It was a different experience on Adipurush for all of us than normal films. In order to imbibe the relation that existed between Lord Shri Ram and Bajrangbali, I used to feel the form of Lord Ram in Prabhas. For Prabhas, that feeling used to come automatically. I used to sit on the sets with the rest of the cast. But as soon as Prabhas used to come from anywhere, I would automatically stand up and become alert. He repeatedly asked me to sit, but I could not do that at all. There is a scene in the trailer where Lord Shri Ram and Anjani's son Hanuman meet. There Hanuman's eyes have an emotional expression. There is a stream of tears from his eyes. Believe me my eyes were actually moist while giving that shot. Because I also met Prabhas in the same spirit. Our director Om Raut was also very happy after getting that shot.'
