A software engineer was arrested in Mumbai after he was found in possession of a manipulated AC Quarterly Season Ticket (QST) for travel between Dadar and Mira Road on local trains which otherwise costs Rs 4,800.

The passenger was caught during a preventive check by an official of the Western Railway Vigilance team on a Churchgate-Borivali AC local train on June 12.

“Upon further investigation, it was found that the accused had manipulated railway tickets multiple times and had circulated similar passes among his friends and relatives,” a Western Railway official said.

According to information, when asked to produce a ticket, the accused reportedly showed a screenshot of a QST. When the official asked him to show the pass on his Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) app, the accused said the app is in some other phone which he forgot at home.

Sensing something is dubious, the railway official enquired with the UTS control room to check the details of the pass and subsequently found out that the QST is fake. The vigilance team later found out that the accused had used an editing app to manipulate the details in the season ticket.
