Two more people of a project management consultant (PMC) company in the dock over the dilapidated condition of the Hatkeshwar bridge have been arrested by the Khokhra police Tuesday.

Pravinbhai Desai (62) and Bhailalbhai Pandya (65), who were working as team leader-cum-coordinator with SGS India Private Limited — the PMC firm accused of criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal conspiracy, were arrested from Ahmedabad.

Pandya was arrested on June 12 and has been sent to police remand until June 19, while Desai was arrested on June 10 and is in police remand until June 14.

“As team leader-cum-coordinator, the two were responsible for spot supervision of the bridge. They were responsible for maintaining registers of who all are coming, supervising day-to-day operations, who are visiting on behalf of AMC during the ongoing project, inspecting the source of materials being used, etc,” said Khokhra police inspector AY Patel.

Pandya lost his son to suicide a few months ago and was not arrested so far on compassionate grounds, said a police official.

Last month, the police had arrested four directors of Ajay Engi-Infrastructure Private Limited (AEIPL), the company that was awarded the tender and contract for the Hatkeshwar Bridge, which was damaged within four years of being opened to the public.

One of the accused, Rasik Ambalal Patel is “wanted”, while two other accused —directors of SGS India Private Limited Amit Thakkar and Shashibhushan Jogani — have a Supreme Court relief operating in their favour wherein the court has ordered for no coercive steps against them, Patel said.
