Simulation Instructor Development: Comprehensive Course

Description

This three-day multidisciplinary interactive course will develop instructors for simulation-based education. Participants will learn the principles of experiential learning, including types of simulation-based education, designing and implementing scenarios, and debriefing strategies.

Learners will have opportunities to develop, implement, and debrief simulation scenarios with the assistance of experienced faculty.

Enrollment is limited to smaller groups to encourage maximum engagement of all attendees.

Intended audience

This course is designed for individuals interested in or involved with simulation curriculum design, implementation, and facilitation.

Learning outcomes

Learners will:

  • Describe fundamental concepts of simulation-based education (SBE)
  • Identify elements of a well-designed SBE to achieve the best learner outcomes
  • Develop and facilitate learner-focused simulation scenarios using best practices in SBE
  • Explore the concept of debriefing in simulation-based education
  • Demonstrate skills required of a debriefing facilitator in a safe environment 
  • Discuss challenges and solutions related to health care simulations

Fees

The registration fee for the three-day course is $2,500 and is payable at the time of registration.

Enrollment and cancellation policy

Attendance is expected at all portions of the three-day course. Due to the limited number of participant openings available, a waiting list is created when the maximum number of participants is reached. If you need to cancel due to mitigating circumstances, please contact us as soon as possible.

Course cancellation policy

Mayo Clinic Multidisciplinary Simulation Center reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. Cancellation will be determined six weeks prior to the course, at which time the participants will be notified.

Mayo Clinic Multidisciplinary Simulation Center is not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses incurred by participants due to cancellations or postponements, including fees assessed by airline, travel, or lodging agencies.

Location and travel information

The Simulation Instructor Development: Comprehensive Course is held in the Mayo Clinic Multidisciplinary Simulation Center, which is located on the main floor of the Stabile Building, 150 Third St. SW, Rochester, Minnesota, unless otherwise noted. It is easily accessible by skyway and the pedestrian subway that connects Mayo Clinic to shops, restaurants, and hotels.
