Citizens of Bermuda traveling to the United States do not require a nonimmigrant visa for travel up to 180 days, except for the travel purposes described below.  Please note, the standard length of stay for Bermudians is up to 180 days, however length of stay is granted at the discretion of the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the port of entry.  Additionally, Bermudian citizens do not require a visa unless they are ineligible for a visa under U.S. immigration law, or have previously violated the terms of their immigration status in the U.S.

Exceptions to visa free entry include those who:

1. Have a criminal conviction or ineligibility.  For more information on how to apply for a waiver please go to Waivers for Criminal Convictions and Ineligibilities.
2. Violated the terms of a previous admission to the U.S.
3. When traveling to the U.S. for the below purposes:

• Fiancé(e)s (K-1)
• Children of fiancé(e)s (K-2)
• Spouse of a U.S. citizen traveling to the United States to complete the immigration process (K-3)
• Children of a foreign citizen spouse (K-4) described above
• Informant supplying critical information relating to a criminal organization (S-5)
• Informant supplying critical information relating to terrorism (S-6)
• Qualified family member (S-7) of an S-5 or S-6 visa holder described above
• Other travel purposes where the intended stay is longer than 180 days

In order for Bermudians to be eligible for this visa exemption they must be able to present a passport containing the following three (3) criteria:

1. A valid British Passport with “Government of Bermuda” written on the front
2. On the data page under nationality have “British Overseas Territory Citizen” or “British Dependent Territories Citizen” listed
3. Have a Bermudian status stamp that says “Holder is registered as a Bermudian”, “Holder Possesses Bermudian Status” or “Holder is deemed to possess Bermudian status”

If any one of these three criteria are missing you should go to the Bermuda Immigration and have your documents amended.

Also, Bermudian citizens do not currently require a visa to attend school in the United States.  Presentation of the I-20 for academic or vocational studies, a SEVIS fee receipt, proof of financial support, and a valid passport at the port of entry is sufficient for Bermudian students to attend school in the United States.  However, many students report that having a visa can assist with obtaining a U.S. drivers license, securing accommodations, or re-entry from land border crossings.  Please go to Bermuda Student Visa Exemptions for more information.
