Training on using the Wiki Applications[edit]

I've just re-donated to support Wikipedia for another year. But, I think I only scratch the surface of using it and the other related Wiki offerings. How can I get training (e.g. videos) on how to use all of the offerings? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.132.217.186 (talk) 14:38, 22 September 2022

Do you want to host an in-person or virtual session at Wikimania 2023? Maybe a hands-on workshop, a lively discussion, a fun performance, a catchy poster, or a memorable lightning talk? Submissions are open until March 28. The event will have dedicated hybrid blocks, so virtual submissions and pre-recorded content are also welcome. Wikipedia TV[edit]

Hi! I was wondering if we could maybe in the future have a television channel? The thing is even nowadays not everyone in the world has access to a computer but mostly everyone in urban areas at least has access to television sets, and so that would be a great idea as far as educating the world, which is what the wikipedia project basically is about. What do you think? Thanks and God bless! Antonio Now I'm Jeanette Martin (yo!) 14:41, March 28, 2023 (UTC)

About Test Commons[edit]

@Jdforrester (WMF) and MArostegui (WMF): The test commons was being closed tagged for deletion on phab:T213295 without following the procedure of Closing projects policy. Also there are some users mentions the benefit of keeping test commons on phab:T333574. As a result, I believe that test commons should not be deleted at the moment. 132.234.229.168 04:14, 6 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi there, this isn't really the venue for feedback on technical changes like this, but I can give you some pointers. As part of the agreement to create test-commons in 2018 we said it was only temporary and would be removed; that was mostly done in T213295 in February, following that agreement. I agree that it looks like some bits of the closing haven't been completed yet, including that task you link. You should follow-up on T213295 about outstanding items.
Incidentally, I don't think the policy about closing content projects applies to non-content "test" technical projects (which shouldn't exist in production at all anyway; Test Wikipedia, Test2 Wikipedia, and Test Wikidata are all confusing messes compared to real community projects). Hello @Jdforrester (WMF): I think you have misunderstood what I said. phab:T333574 is a bug occur in both commons and test commons. The test commons may help to fix the bug occurred in commons. What I mean is that I hope the test commons can be reopen to fix this bug. 132.234.228.150 08:07, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Is it possible not to delete test commons? There are a number of CentralAuth accounts being created in test commons. Deleting test commons may cause those accounts losing their home wiki, which is not a good idea as having a home wiki is beneficial to some tools, such as this one. 132.234.228.198 08:46, 12 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Trust & Safety Foundation: Research Collaborative - Call for Applicants who are Arb Com members and/or admins[edit]

The Trust & Safety Foundation (TSF) is excited to host the 2023 Research Collaborative, an interdisciplinary, two day virtual event on August 31 – September 1, 2023 that will bring together industry researchers, academic researchers, civil society experts, and online moderators to collaborate on research questions and activities related to the psychological health and wellbeing of online moderators.

While many research initiatives focus on online moderator’s psychological health and wellbeing with moderators as the object of study, this event aims to center the experiences and expertise of content and community moderators, inviting online moderators to co-design research questions and activities.

It would be wonderful to have Wikimedia community moderator representation involved as folks on Wiki have been doing this work for decades!

Applications are due May 22, 2023. You can learn more here. Mssemantics (talk) 20:16, 3 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
