The United States government, through USAID, will be supporting the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (the Santo Domingo Institute of Technology, INTEC), from April 2020 to mid-2021, to strengthen the Climate and Resilience Observatory to ensure its sustainability and public access to local and regional climate information. USAID’s total investment is of US$108,000.
With both parties’ support, information from extreme events (heat waves and drought events) will be shared and will serve as a reference and support for public, private and civil society planners as well as decision makers involved and concerned with climate change.
In addition, the observatory is expected to serve as a training facility for university students, where they can complete their internships on the use, management and interpretation of climate data.
