SUMMARY

Brian Patrick O'Neill, M.D., has accumulated more than 40 years of experience as a translational brain tumor investigator. This extensive clinical, research, education and administrative expertise undergirds his service on research activities going forward.

During his research career at Mayo Clinic, Dr. O'Neill has served as:

  • The founder of the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center Translational Research Program in Neuro-Oncology, now the Neuro-Oncology Program. He led the program for over three consecutive National Cancer Institute (NCI)-funding periods.
  • An NCI-funded investigator for clinical trials on nervous system malignancies.
  • The principal investigator for Mayo Clinic Brain Cancer Specialized Program of Research Excellence and director of its Administrative Core over two consecutive funding periods.

An emeritus professor of neurology with Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, Dr. O'Neill is currently working as a supplemental research consultant with an active translational research program. Also, he is continuing his work as corresponding program director and principal investigator for an NCI Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Institutional Research Training Grant in brain cancer research.
