The World Health Organization’s “World Malaria Day” is April 25th. Globally, the World Health Organization estimates that in 2020, 241 million cases of malaria occurred, and 627,000 people, mostly children in Africa, died of malaria.  The World Factbook has expanded the Major infectious disease field in the the World entry to focus on the global distribution of the most serious infectious diseases and has provided maps showing the disease distribution.  In addition, the Major infectious disease entry for all countries has been updated with the most recent risk assessments.
