Taylor Swift: the superstar who bridges America’s political divide

The singer has ratings Biden and Trump can only dream of. She’s left-leaning — but the right covet her

In the days after his 2020 election victory, Joe Biden declared himself the man to heal a polarised America. “It’s time to put away the harsh rhetoric, to lower the temperature,” he announced. More than two years later and all the evidence suggests that the country’s temperature remains dangerously high.

So is anyone capable of unifying America? A survey released this week suggests a possible candidate: Taylor Swift.

According to the US market research company Morning Consult, 53 per cent of adult Americans identify as fans of the country singer turned pop powerhouse, who opened her latest tour with a 3 hour, 15 minute 44 song concert in Arizona on Friday night.
