[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 4 Episode 14, “Tongues Out.”] When women at church gossip about Tommy (Gina Torres) and Trevor’s (D.B. Woodside) relationship on 9-1-1: Lone Star, the paramedic takes matters into her own hands. In “Tongues Out,” Grace (Sierra McClain) is the one to alert Tommy to what’s being said, and when Trevor finds out, he’s worried; nasty rumors are why he had to leave Kansas, and he has to think of his daughter. At first, Tommy begins thinking about finding another church, but in the end, she instead steps up in mass to give the reading because she feels the Holy Spirit calling — and uses it to put the gossipers in their place before calling them out. She refuses to be ashamed and driven from the church. Trevor’s reaction? He kisses her and tells her he loves her. Torres breaks down that ending and teases what’...

Tuesday may be Gina Torres‘ birthday, but it was she who gave us a gift via this week’s 9-1-1: Lone Star.
When Tommy and Trevor’s relationship became the subject of less-than-idle gossip at church, the latter considered ending things between them, as these types of rumors are apparently what drove him from his last congregation. He even tried to couch the breakup with flattery, telling Tommy, “I’ve never met anyone like you.” But she wasn’t having any of that noise, not waiting even a second before replying, “You never will again.”

One of Smallville’s worst-kept secrets is finally out in the open — and we’re not talking about how Clark Kent sometimes likes to wear his underwear on the outside of his pants.
Tuesday’s episode of Superman & Lois clued Lana into Kyle’s budding relationship with Chrissy, something she might have been more receptive to if she didn’t catch Kyle meeting Chrissy in secret when he was supposed to be watching their daughter. Not Sarah, the other one. Darn, she’s right — people do forget about her.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Night Court Season 1 Episode 12, “When Abby Met Gabby.”] Melissa Villaseñor loves being silly. To that end, appearing on NBC‘s Night Court reboot was a no-brainer. The Saturday Night Live alum played Gabby in the Tuesday, April 25 installment of the sitcom, and like much of Night Court‘s proceedings, the premise of the episode was silly in and of itself. When court clerk Neil’s (Kapil Talwalkar) high school crush, Gabby, appeared at the Manhattan court to finalize her divorce, Abby (Melissa Rauch) and Olivia (India de Beaufort) saw this as the perfect opportunity to nip Neil’s crush on Abby in the bud. As it turns out, Neil has a type. Abby and Gabby (a dentist) are two peas in a pod, their personalities exhibiting the same kind of quirk, goofiness, and positivity. Eventually, Abby feared that she and Gabby may have a little too much in common. Are...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the April 25 episode of Jeopardy!] This installment of Jeopardy! hosted by Ken Jennings, saw yet another triple stumper from an easy Final Jeopardy category, this time relating to two premiere crime dramas from the ’80s. After dethroning contestant Emma in her short rule as one-day Champ, it was up to Dillon Hupp to defend his single-day streak and $21,999 winnings against Ian Marquand, a retired broadcaster, and Johanna Stoberock, a fiction writer and adjunct professor. During Double Jeopardy, Dillon was able to go from second to first place after answering the second Daily Double correctly, adding $1,600 to his total of $6,600, ahead of Johanna’s $5,000. Although who remained in the lead fluctuated throughout the round, Johanna recovered first place by correctly answering the third and last Daily Double, leaving her with $15,600 against Ian’s $11,600 and Dillon’s $10,600, respectively, going into Final Jeopardy. Unfortunately, nobody could answer the following in the TV History category: “The 1980s ...

We might be living in the era of Peak TV, but there’s no denying that multi-camera sitcoms peaked from July 5, 1989 to May 14, 1998. A cultural phenomenon during its original run that became one of the most quoted shows of the past quarter century, “Seinfeld” is a work of art that remains in a class of its own.
Seinfeld played a fictional version of himself across nine stellar seasons, with “Seinfeld” racking up 10 Emmys (and an additional 68 nominations) during its 180-episode run. But while the observational humor that fueled Seinfeld’s standup career was at the core of the show, the real stars were Jerry’s eccentric friends.
The comedian starred opposite Jason Alexander’s George Constanza, an unapologetically selfish Queens native who displayed true brilliance in his attempts to avoid work, accountability, and anything resembling human virtue. “Love & Death” feels familiar, as it should. The Max drama is the second series in less than a year to take on the same story: the case of Candy Montgomery, a Texas housewife who killed her friend and neighbor Betty Gore with an ax in 1980.
This version follows closely on the heels of “Candy,” which aired on Hulu last year. The proximity practically demands comparison, and it’s tempting to draw up a laundry list of differences and call it a review. “Love & Death” casts Elizabeth Olsen as Montgomery, while “Candy” stars Jessica Biel. “Candy” is inflected with horror,...

CNBC has lost some of its avarice for the long-running primetime series “American Greed.”
The documentary program, which examines white-collar crime, scams and embezzlement, among other business-focused wrongdoing, has been running on the NBCUniversal business-news channel since 2007, completing 15 seasons and 222 episodes, along with three spin-offs. In 2023, however, the series order was significantly smaller than those in the past, according to two people familiar with the matter, and production of original episodes has ceased for the moment.
“CNBC has not canceled ‘American Greed,'” the network said in a statement. Six new episodes ran between January 24 and March 7 of this year.

Fatal Attraction was a huge box office hit back in 1987, but it didn’t age all that well, with Glenn Close’s spurned mistress turning into a crazed horror movie villain intent on hacking her former lover to bits. Paramount+’s new series adaptation — debuting this Sunday; I’ve seen the first four episodes — aims to right that wrong by reexamining the central affair through modern eyes and showing us there’s more to the story. Genndy Tartakovsky has proudly become the auteur of adult 2D animation. His new “Unicorn Warriors: Eternal” steampunk series premieres May 4 on Adult Swim; he’s completing his R-rated dog comedy “Fixed” for release next year at Sony Pictures Animation; and he’s prepping for Season 3 of his Emmy-winning “Primal” series at Adult Swim, but departing from the prehistoric world.

What would “Frasier” be without Roz?
Sure, the satirically snobby Seattle-based “Cheers” spin-off was centered on radio psychologist Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) and his fraught relationships with his brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce) and father Martin (John Mahoney) while self-sabotaging his hopeless romantic pursuits. Yet the crux of the series, its most necessary foil, came from Frasier’s radio producer Roz Doyle (Peri Gilpin) who did not hesitate to mock Frasier’s out-of-touch privilege and many misfires.
The announcement that Peri Gilpin is reprising her role as Roz for one episode in the “Frasier” Paramount+ revival ignites a surge of hope for a spinoff that’s otherwise without most of the original core cast.
The best parts of “Frasier” are its women, and that needs to be recognized in the present day, especially since it actually was at the time of its first airing. While current shows like “The Idol...

“If you’ve seen me do stand-up before, I have kind of a different vibe now,” John Mulaney says at the top of his new Netflix special Baby J. In the years since the comedian released his last stand-up special, 2018’s Kid Gorgeous at Radio City, he very publicly went to rehab, divorced his wife, started a new relationship with a muddled timeline, and became a father, all of which contributed to the phrase “parasocial relationships” joining the lexicon.
People who used to herald Mulaney as a rare “nice guy” comedian suddenly turned on him, personally offended that he would do such things. The tone shift that Mulaney references seems to be a result from not only getting sober but coming to terms with the fact that he was no longer America’s most likable comedian.

It’s the perfect reveal in that the villain’s identity feels shocking yet inevitable upon reflection, given how intricately it’s interwoven with everything that has come before. Yet according to Michael Begler, who took over showrunning duties on “Perry Mason” this season with his writing partner Jack Amiel, the identity of the antagonist came fairly late in the process. “I think the last part [we figured out] was who done it,” Begler told IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit podcast. “When I really think about how we broke the season, we were rewriting and rewriting. “Emperor of Ocean Park,” the best-selling novel by Stephen L. Carter, is being adapted into a TV series at MGM+.
MGM+ (formerly Epix) has ordered 10 episodes of the show. The order brings the book’s long road to the screen to near completion. It was originally optioned back in 2001 ahead of the book publishing. Multiple attempts have since been made to adapt the book into a film and later a television series, though none of those projects have moved forward until now.

Think of a British TV series about the royal family that launched in 2016 and features some of Britain’s best writing and acting talent. No, not “The Crown” but “The Windsors,” the royal comedy show from Channel 4 that is poised to steal “The Crown’s” well, crown. A soap opera-style sitcom, it shows Charles, William, Harry and the rest of the royals as they’ve never been seen before.
Where “The Crown” offers a sober, historical take on the royals, winning both critical plaudits and awards in the process, “The Windsors” is a cheeky younger sibling that has spent its life in the shadows.

J.K. Rowling is well aware many “Harry Potter” fans intend to boycott Max’s upcoming television series adaptation due to her involvement as an executive producer on the show. The Warner Bros. A “Blossom” reboot is well past the ideas stage. Mayim Bialik, who starred in the titular role of the 1990s sitcom, tells me series creator Don Reo has written a pilot for its return. “The show was supposed to be ‘Catcher in the Rye’ about a girl, which was unusual. And we’d like to do a reboot that’s unusual. We’d like to do a single cam,” Bialik says. “All of the cast is on board.”
However, it sounds like it’ll take more time to get things going than they were hoping. “It’s a set of...

Some yardsticks are hard to break.
The nation’s TV companies have for months worked to edge out Nielsen from the business of measuring TV audiences. They had good reason: Nielsen failed to count viewership properly during the coronavirus pandemic, leading to a lack of confidence in its abilities and a removal of its national accreditation by the Media Rating Council — an act tantamount to pulling off the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval from a kitchen tool or appliance.
