The U.S. Embassy has learned that a March for Peace is planned for December 10 in the downtown area of Bujumbura. The exact start time and place are unknown, but road closures and traffic congestion in the center of town are likely until noon.
Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. The U.S. Embassy is advising citizens to avoid areas where gatherings are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
