Norway increases support for earthquake victims

‘The earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria are the worst natural disaster in the region for 100 years. There is an enormous need for humanitarian assistance in both countries. Norway is now increasing its support for the victims of the earthquakes bringing the total to NOK 250 million,’ said Minister of Foreign Affairs Anniken Huitfeldt.

The Norwegian Government bolsters efforts for gender and sexual diversity in new action plan

The Norwegian government’s Action Plan for Gender and Sexual Diversity was launched today. The plan comprises 49 measures aimed at protecting rights , and improving quality of life for LGBT+ people, and increasing recognition of gender and sexual diversity in society.

Norway to provide NOK 500 million to UN fund for education in emergencies and protracted crises

‘Safeguarding education in situations of crisis and conflict is a priority area for the Norwegian Government. Education Cannot Wait is one of our most important partners in these efforts. Our cooperation has been extremely constructive, and Norway is now pledging to provide support to ECW’s work over the next four years,’ said Minister of International Development Anne Beathe Tvinnereim. Ms Tvinnereim today announced an allocation of NOK 500 million to Education Cannot Wait (ECW), the UN global fund for education in emergencies and protracted crises, for the period 2023–2026. Ms Tvinnereim is attending ECW’s High-level Financing Conference in Geneva this week.

Broad political agreement on multi-year support programme for Ukraine

A broad majority in the Storting have now reached agreement on a multi-year support programme for Ukraine, amounting to NOK 75 billion. The Nansen Support Programme for Ukraine was launched today, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky participating digitally.
