How the ‘Bones and All’ Soundscape Came to Life with Raw Chicken and Gruesome Research

How the ‘Bones and All’ Soundscape Came to Life with Raw Chicken and Gruesome Research
The believability of Luca Guadagnino’s spine-chilling feature “Bones and All” is no small feat, given the grotesque cannibalistic behavior exhibited by the film’s protagonists; but the task is one that the audio editors and mixers took to extremes, destroying raw chickens to achieve the effect of consuming another human being.

“They had to buy many chickens and break bones and destroy flesh,” emphasized Michele Gualdrini, a recording mixer on the film.

Based on a 2015 novel of the same name by Camille DeAngelis, “Bones and All” is a horror romance that stars cannibal outcasts Maren (Taylor Russell) and Lee (Timothée Chalamet), who embark on a road trip to evade the consequences of their actions.

The 130-minute feature contains no shortage of graphic content, including one especially nauseating sequence where a fellow cannibal named Sully eats an elderly woman after breaking into her home with Maren. Supervising dialogue editor Davide Favargiotti

Ginny & Georgia Season 2 Review: Too Much of an Emotional Punch

Ginny & Georgia Season 2 Review: Too Much of an Emotional Punch
Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia is back for Season 2, which means more teen drama, more questionable parenting moments, and of course, more hair-raising secrets to unravel. When we last left the dysfunctional Miller family, Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and her little brother Austin (Diesel La Torraca) were hightailing it out of Wellsbury on a motorbike in hopes of getting as far away as possible from mother dearest Georgia (Brianne Howey) and her glitter-coated web of lies and secrets (the murdery kind). From lying about sending Austin’s letters to his dad in prison to taking out credit cards in her children’s names, Georgia has always done what it takes to survive — to the detriment of her children. By the end of Season 1, Ginny and Austin have had enough of Georgia, whom we learned through a series of grim flashbacks has been something of a Bonnie-esque criminal since she was a

Only God Forgives: Nicolas Winding Refn’s Controversial Follow-up to Drive

Only God Forgives: Nicolas Winding Refn’s Controversial Follow-up to Drive
There aren’t many films like Drive. Sure, you don’t have to look far to find '80s-inspired throwbacks with enough neon lighting and synth soundtracks to delight any cinephile nostalgic for an era they never experienced, but Drive’s delicate mix of art house sensibilities pushed through the filter of a commercial blockbuster, making it that rare concoction that appealed to both highbrow critics and general audiences. One minute Nicolas Winding Refn was walking away from Cannes Film Festival with the Best Director award in his pocket, and the next he was watching his latest film gross 81 million at the global box office — a whopping figure for something that is still firmly entrenched on the art house side of the debate. Suddenly he was thrust into the Hollywood spotlight with offers to direct tentpole films like Wonder Woman and Spectre, but Refn was never one to take the obvious approach.

The Naked Gun Deserves to Emerge from Airplane!'s Shadow

The Naked Gun Deserves to Emerge from Airplane!'s Shadow
The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, based on the TV cult classic Police Squad!, is a successful film that spawned two sequels and caught actor Leslie Nielsen at the peak of his comic talents. From beginning to end, the film literally has something funny happening at every moment. It’s a comedy in the same vein as its cousin Airplane!, created by the same madcap team of David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker (otherwise known as Zaz), but arguably has a more cohesive storyline to link its non-stop puns, wordplay, and sight gags together. So why isn’t it at the tip of one’s tongue when recounting the greatest comedies in Hollywood history?

Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Gran Turismo’ First Look Takes CES for a Ride

Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Gran Turismo’ First Look Takes CES for a Ride
Sony strapped on their racing gloves at this year’s CES convention in Las Vegas, debuting a first look teaser for the studio’s upcoming “Gran Turismo” film based on the video game racing franchise.

Gran Turismo” is directed by Neill Blomkamp (“District 9”), and is both inspired by the video game and based on the true story of teen gamer Jann Mardenborough who became a professional race car driver after winning a series of Nissan competitions thanks to his gaming skills. Though the teaser itself doesn’t show off any of that story, it features the film’s star Archie Madekwe as Mardenborough alongside Orlando Bloom and David Harbour discussing the sleek action and visuals that aim to recapture the look of the games.

“It’s badass race car action that you’re going to feel like you’re in the middle of,” Harbour said in the clip.

James Cameron Has A 'Secret Film Club' With Steven Spielberg And Guillermo Del Toro

James Cameron Has A 'Secret Film Club' With Steven Spielberg And Guillermo Del Toro
Having friends is pretty great on a variety of levels. They can be your support system, challenge you, inspire you, and generally just be there for you through good times and bad. If you're the creative type, it's often beneficial to have friends serve as a sounding board as you work on your latest project. As a writer who lives with another writer as a roommate, I can assure you that it's pretty awesome to have someone around to bounce jokes or ideas off of when you're trying to improve your work during the editing process.

This probably sounds like a pretty basic part of life, because maintaining friendships is something that most people do every day. However, it can sometimes be extra fun when your favorite celebrities are also real-life besties. Considering that the entertainment industry can be incredibly self-serving and cut-throat, it's even better when you find out

The Last of Us Directors Are Perfect Choices to Adapt Heartbreaking Game

The Last of Us Directors Are Perfect Choices to Adapt Heartbreaking Game
While video game adaptations have had a rough history, it finally looks like the entertainment industry has found a way to bring justice to classic games. Recently, both Sonic the Hedgehog and Uncharted were box office hits, and Super Mario Bros. is expected to be one of the biggest films of this year. However, there’s probably not been a more anticipated adaptation ever than The Last of Us, HBO’s series inspired by the 2013 game of the same name. The Last of Us is as much a story of trauma and grief as it is a post-apocalyptic adventure, and the creative team behind it reflects the more serious implications of the narrative.

Werewolf By Night Director Michael Giacchino Will Remake Them! At Warner Bros

Werewolf By Night Director Michael Giacchino Will Remake Them! At Warner Bros
Hot off the Disney+ debut of "Werewolf By Night," composer-turned-director Michael Giacchino has his sights set on another monster story, this time a remake of the atomic scare flick "Them!" The original starred James Arness, Joan Weldon, and James Whitmore and was about a bunch of giant, radioactive ants.

For a certain generation of monster kids, "Them!" was the pinnacle of crazy sci-fi horror. Today's kids might be more comfortable with the Annabelles and Chuckys and Pennywises out there, but that doesn't mean there isn't a way to bring a socially conscious sci-fi/horror movie into the modern day and Giacchino seems uniquely suited to tackle such a challenge.

"Werewolf By Night" is nothing if not a love letter to classic monster movies and Giacchino's first outing as a director was a short film starring Patton Oswalt called "Monster Challenge," which lovingly poked fun at the king daddy of all atomic scare movies: "Godzilla.

Edward Norton Discovers Pocahontas Is His 12th Great Grandmother on ‘Finding Your Roots’

Edward Norton Discovers Pocahontas Is His 12th Great Grandmother on ‘Finding Your Roots’
Edward Norton got the chance to fact-check a long-standing family rumor thanks to “Finding Your Roots.”

The “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” actor confirmed a long-standing family rumor that he is related to Pocahontas, the famed 17th-century Powhatan woman who married English settler John Rolfe in 1614. During a recent episode of PBS’ “Finding Your Roots,” Norton learns that Pocahontas is his 12th great-grandmother.

“I understand that was family lore,” host Henry Louis Gates Jr. told Norton. “Well, it is absolutely true.”

Gates contextualized the fact: “John Rolfe and Pocahontas got married on April 5, 1614. Shakespeare dies in 1616, just to put this in perspective,” he said. “Pocahontas died sometime in March 1617 in Grave’s End, England, and John Rolfe died around March 1622.”

Norton replied, “This is about as far back as you can go, unless you’re a Viking. Makes you realize what a small piece of the whole human story you are.
