BBC Sport

0102: Right, it is now more than two hours since the transfer window closed, which seems a good time to wrap our deadline day coverage up. Thanks to you lot for keeping me company over the last eight hours or so, to Saj Chowdhury and Sam Sheringham for their work earlier on today, and to all the BBC journalists who fed news into the commentary today. Keep checking the BBC website for news of Marvin Sordell's move from Watford to Bolton and Ryan Nelsen's potential move to Tottenham - and hopefully we will have news of what happened to them by the time I see you all again for Wednesday night's Premier League games. Cheerio for now.

1259: I know you haven't forgotten but, just in case you have, here's a quick reminder that the new BBC Sport website will be ready for its relaunch at 0600 GMT on Wednesday. So, have a quick doze, dream of those deadline day signings which never happened, and get ready to fill your boots in a few hours time.

From Tom in Durham, via text: "Think Everton fans might be celebrating too early. Pienaar and Gibson good signings, but signings from Scotland have usually struggled in the Premier League."

Text in your views on 81111 (UK)
From Homer J in Everton, via text: "Well done Bill Kenwright and all @ Everton FC for putting a huge smile on all The Blues fans faces tonight. Great performance @ Goodison too. Keep it up!"

0045: We may not have seen a deadline day to match January 2011, when Andy Carroll and Fernando Torres were among the late movers for a combined total of £85m, but I've still quite enjoyed today. A lot less money has been spent over the course of the month too - an estimated £60m compared to around £225m - but I guess the introduction of Financial Fair Play was always going to have that sort of effect.

0038: Last August it was Peter Crouch who kept us all waiting. This time it is (still) Marvin Sordell and Ryan Nelsen. Clearly, if they are signing for Bolton and Tottenham respectively, then it that happened before the 2300 GMT deadline... but getting official confirmation takes a little bit longer. Almost two hours (and counting) longer to be exact.

New Tottenham striker Louis Saha on Twitter: "I want to thanks fans for the great support I had at Everton.Great club, top players and staff, brilliant spirit. Love & wish u the very best."

I seem to recall Louis Saha tweeting prolifically in a rather different mood after being left out of the Everton team earlier this season. Still, he seems happy now. Oh, and is there an Everton player who doesn't tweet? They are all at it tonight... David Moyes will be on next (or maybe not!).

Ash, Northumberland, via text: "Re 0012. After what happened 12 months ago with Andy Carroll, I am just happy the Newcastle squad is still together. Also some interesting transfers. Harry knows what he is doing with both Louis Saha and Ryan Nelsen. The last push for the title now!"

Twitter
JamesIPatience on Twitter: "Re 0016. Shame to lose Sordell, seems like yet another class player has left Watford. Thankfully we got to keep Mariappa."

matt_ball_1 on Twitter: "Re 0012. How can Arsenal not be considered massive losers in this window? Surely Arsenal fans must want rid of Wenger by now?"

Stephen Gibson, Rickmansworth, via text: "Re 0012. Everton are big winners today. The feelgood factor is back and that has done us proud many times. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum."

Mathew_SE_Stock on Twitter: "Re 0012. Everton by far are up there! Jelavic, Pienaar and Gibson, not to mention Donavon, Straq and Drenthe from August, good deals!"

BBC Sport's chief football writer Phil McNulty on Twitter: "As Redknapp suggested Pienaar deal was dead - but intervention from Bill Kenwright and talks with Daniel Levy got the deal back up and running."

Sam, Wirral, via text: "Re 2353. Everton were owed £1.5m by Rangers from the Michael Ball transfer back in 2001 hence the lower transfer fee."

Everton attacking midfielder Tim Cahill on Twitter: "Welcome Jelavic and Pienaar. Fantastic lift for players, staff and fans. And to Louis Saha - good luck my friend you will be missed."

0016: BBC Sport understands the paperwork surrounding Watford striker Marvin Sordell's £3m move to Bolton is all but done, and the move should be officially confirmed soon. Defender Adrian Mariappa, who played at Millwall tonight, was the Hornets player who seemed most likely to leave Vicarage Road but he will be staying until the summer after Wigan failed with a bid today. So, the Championship side keep the player they thought they would be losing, and lose one they thought they would be keeping. What do their fans make of that?

0012:Everton, Tottenham and QPR have been busy, among others, but who have been your deadline day winners and losers? I'm nominating Fulham for the latter category if only because they have effectively exchanged Bobby Zamora for Pavel Pogrebnyak. But what do you think? Former Arsenal and England defender Martin Keown on Match of the Day's Transfer Deadline Day special: "Saha is a good signing for Tottenham. I've played against him and I had a taste of his pace. He's class."

BBC Radio 5 Live
BBC Radio 5 live's senior football reporter Ian Dennis on Match of the Day's Transfer Deadline Day special: "Many managers complained about having to play games on the same night as the transfer window shut. I think it has certainly hampered their chances of completing some business."

Everton captain Phil Neville on Twitter: "If u asked me on jan 1st pick anyone in the world to sign for us this window I would of said only 1 man and my prayers have been answered."

0006: Still no news on Ryan Nelsen's arrival from Blackburn but Tottenham say they have agreed a fee to sell their 30-year-old striker Roman Pavlyuchenko to Lokomotiv Moscow. Pavlyuchenko will have to undergo a medical and agree personal terms before that becomes a done deal but, as I said earlier, the Russian deadline is not for another three weeks.

Former England defender Martin Keown on Match of the Day's Transfer Deadline Day special: "QPR look as though they've been the busiest with Mark Hughes going for what he knows. It looks promising. He's got players in who he knows can do a job."

0001: Here's Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers on his new signing from Wrexham, 22-year-old right-back Curtis Obeng: "Technically he can deal with the ball, he's calm in possession and passes it well. He has great, great pace. And no doubt mentally he is hungry and I like hungry players that have a point to prove and want to get better."

Everton defender Johnny Heitinga on Twitter: "Pienaar coming back is great news. What a great day for the Blues! Sleep well."

2359: Sorry, it's not ALL about Marvin Sordell (now, that's a sentence I never thought I'd write). We're also waitng for confirmation from Tottenham that they have signed a 34-year-old New Zealand defender with long-standing knee trouble. I'll bring you news of Ryan Nelsen's move from Blackburn when I get any.

Steven Pienaar on his last-gasp loan move from Tottenham to Everton on Twitter: "Happy days. Look like we just beat the clock. Holding thumbs for next few hours."

From Lee Price, via text: "Why did Rangers sell Jelavic to Everton for £5.5m when they'd rejected £7m from West Ham? Bizarre."

My guess is that Everton were offering more money up front. Rangers needed cash quickly.

2353: Which just leaves us waiting on a 20-year-old Watford striker. Bolton have reportedly agreed a £3m fee for Hornets frontman and youth-team product Marvin Sordell, who has scored 10 goals in 29 games this season, and he was discussing personal terms earlier tonight. Is he the man to keep Wanderers in the Premier League? Mind you, he will have some help. The expected departure of Kevin Davies, subject of a bid from Sunderland on Monday, was one of the deals that, like Owen Coyle's attempt to sign Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace, did not happen.

2347: DONE DEAL
Everton
have confirmed they have signed their former midfielder Steven Pienaar, 29, on loan from Tottenham for the rest of the season.

From Joel in London, via text: "As a Spurs fan, I'm pretty gutted at the news of Pav's apparent departure to Moscow. He's a striker who's had to feed off scraps throughout his time at The Lane, yet still has a healthy goals to games ratio, while 'star players' like Adebayor stand offside for 90 minutes week in week out. Louis Saha is an intriguing deal and could prove a masterstroke but I'm gutted to lose the Russian. Nelsen over Samba is straight up bizarre."

2343: Right then, that just leaves Bolton target Marvin Sordell and potential Everton loanee Steven Pienaar as players with their futures to be decided tonight.

2338: DONE DEAL
Blimey, that was quick. It is still subject to paperwork but Norwich have definitely signed 21-year-old defender Ryan Bennett from Peterborough on a three-and-a-half year deal. And he will rejoin Posh until 28 February on loan.

2336: Here's an update on Ryan Bennett's move from Peterborough to Norwich, which Grimsby fans were were waiting on (below). BBC Sport understands Posh are waiting on the paper that confirms he will return to them on loan, which will be for a month to give them time to find a replacement. If it goes through, the fee will be a record sale for Peterborough, around £3m, with Grimsby receiving a sell-on percentage.

Twitter
SBOmad on Twitter: "Re 2324. Can sleep easy now. Demba Ba still at Toon."

harry350 on Twitter: "Re 2324. Absolutely delighted to hang on to our players (Portsmouth). Fees agreed for two but they refused to go!"

2332: We're also waiting on news of Roman Pavlyuchenko's move from Tottenham to Lokomotiv Moscow, but don't hold your breath on that one because the Russian transfer window doesn't close for another three weeks.

Jeff, via text: "Any news on whether Ryan Bennett's move to Norwich got through in time? A lot of Grimsby fans waiting for the sell-on clause money!"

No news on that one yet either...

TaylorEightSix on Twitter: "What a day for Toffees. Let's hope we get Pienaar back. The we can charge up the table like every year."

IshyKaratas on Twitter: "Re 2324. I think the team that's made the best transfers has been QPR. Tottenham were the talk of the town but could only disappoint us."

domstirling12 on Twitter: "Re 2324. As a #BRFC fan, gutted about Nelsen to spurs, club captain and legend, disgusted with Venkys even more!"

Rhys_Arsenal14 on Twitter: "Re 2324. As an Arsenal fan I had hoped for a big name winger or full-back to join. I should know better by know though!"

Fulham
have sealed the signing of Portsmouth's 18-year-old winger Ryan Williams for an undisclosed fee. The Australian, who has signed a two-and-a-half year deal, played for the west London club's reserve team against Wolves on Monday night.

2320: We're not waiting on much now (apart from Steven Pienaar) but we are still in the dark over Marvin Sordell's proposed £3m move from Watford to Bolton. He was discussing personal terms last I heard...

Breaking news
2316: There's always at least one. Yes, the window has closed but... Steven Pienaar could still be on his way back to Everton after all in a loan deal. I'll keep you posted.

This one affects Blackburn too. Wolves have signed 25-year-old Tottenham centre-back Sebastien Bassong on loan for the rest of the season which, going on what Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said earlier, would suggest Ryan Nelsen is on his way to White Hart Lane.

From Rory in Leeds, via text: "As a Spurs fan I'm a bit disappointed in Harry Redknapp this window, no marquee signing and talk of Ryan Nelsen is worrying."

I guess the Blackburn defender that most people might have expected Tottenham to try and sign today would be Chris Samba. He is definitely staying at Ewood Park though.

Fulham defender Aaron Hughes on Twitter: "Good luck to Zamo on his move. It's not gonna be the same without him around the place. Gonna miss him......top man!"

2306: DONE DEAL
This one definitely beat the deadline. Tottenham have brought in Everton striker Louis Saha, initially on loan until the end of the season but with the option of a permanent deal for the 33-year-old.

2305: West Brom head coach Roy Hodgson on his capture of Blackburn's Republic of Ireland midfielder Keith Andrews: "Keith is a player I know well and have admired for several years. He's a flexible midfielder who can play in a number of roles across midfield. He will bring experience to the squad and also has a good scoring record."

2303: And that was the January transfer window, 2012. It wasn't a classic, but a string of late deals meant it wasn't dull either. Who beat the deadline, and who didn't? I guess we will find out in the next hour or two..

2300: THE ENGLISH TRANSFER WINDOW IS NOW SHUT

In the nick of time, West Ham have swooped to bring in 25-year-old Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard. When I get details of the fee, I'll let you know.

Handshake
2255: DONE DEAL
Swansea City
have completed a deal for 22-year-old Wrexham right-back Curtis Obeng, who has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at the Liberty Stadium.

2255: QPR boss Mark Hughes on the £4m signing of Bobby Zamora from the his former club Fulham: "Bobby is a guy that makes things happen on the pitch - be it scoring goals or creating chances for others. He's a great foil for any team. We needed a player of his ilk at the football club and I couldn't be more delighted." The England striker added: "I think this was the right time for me to have a fresh challenge."

2252: So, as the window prepares to SLAM shut, Marvin Sordell (to Bolton), Nicky Maynard (to West Ham), Roman Pavlyuchenko (to Lokomotiv Moscow) and Ryan Nelsen (to Tottenham) appear to be the big deals we are waiting on. Are there anymore out there?

Handshake
2245: DONE DEAL
Rochdale
have signed forward Michael Symes from League One rivals Bournemouth on loan until 5 May.

2250: Time running out for these deals to go through. Norwich are close signing highly-rated Peterborough full-back Ryan Bennett, and BBC Sport understands he will be loaned back to Posh for rest of the season. They'd better hurry up though...

2246: DONE DEAL Manchester City
have officially announced the arrival of Chile midfielder David Pizarro, 32, on a free loan from Roma for the rest of the season.

2244: We knew at 6pm that he wouldn't be going to Italy, and reports tonight from other sources that out-of-favour Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez is looking to join Russian or South American clubs are understood by BBC Sport to be wide of the mark. A move to a western European club in the summer is still the most likely outcome for the player. The Russian transfer deadline not until 24 February, and the South American deadline is at a similar time so don't expect that story to disappear anytime soon.

2240: One potential move which went awfully quiet was Wilfried Zaha's switch from Crystal Palace to Bolton, after Wanderers made an improved £7m bid for the 19-year-old winger. Mind you, Bolton are now pre-occupied with wrapping up a deal for Watford striker Marvin Sordell, with just 20 minutes of the transfer window to go.

2236: More from White Hart Lane, and this concerns Blackburn too. Louis Saha's move to Tottenham will be a loan until the end of the season, with the option of another season on a permanent basis after that, depending on the 33-year-old's fitness. And Sebastien Bassong's move to Wolves depends on whether Spurs can bring in 34-year-old Ryan Nelsen on a free transfer from Blackburn. I'm not sure I understand that last bit - Nelsen is a decent defender but he has a whole load of injury problems.

Handshake
2230 DONE DEALS
Northampton Town
are doing enough deals to keep this deadline day going single-handedly. The Football League's bottom club have given a contract goalkeeper Neal Kitson, 26, who arrives from USL Professional Division side Rochester Rhinos. The Cobblers have also signed striker Lewis Wilson from Newport Pagnell Town on a contract until the end of the season.

Two of them at the City ground. Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest, who lost to Burnley tonight and are on a dreadful run, have bolstered their backline with the signings of two Premier League defenders. Stoke City's experienced full-back Danny Higginbotham and Scott Wootton, Manchester United's 20-year-old centre-back, both join on loan until the end of the season.

BBC Northampton report that midfielder Ben Harding has now signed for Northampton Town permanently on a free transfer. He has agreed an 18 month contract having initially been on loan from Wycombe until the end of the season.

BBC Sport's Frank Keogh on Twitter: "West Ham expect to sign striker Nicky Maynard from Bristol City. Good day at office, bad day out of it."

2216: I've got a feeling the next 45 minutes or so wil be pretty hectic, don't you? Bring it on, and let's hope it will be worth the wait.

2214: Oh, and Harry Redknapp also said that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is handling striker Roman Pavlyuchenko's prospective move to with Lokomotiv Moscow, and he thinks that will go through too. I knew Spurs would be busy, they always are...

Breaking news
2212: More news from Tottenham. Lots of it. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp says he tried to sign Juventus winger Milos Krasic this week but he only wanted the Serbia international on loan and the Italian side were only interested in a permanent deal. Redknapp also says he could not let Steven Pienaar goes back to Everton because he has too many injuries and has revealed that Wolves want to sign Sebastien Bassong but he will need to complete a deal for an unnamed defender before he lets that one go through.

Breaking news
2206: Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says Spurs have agreed a deal with Everton for striker Louis Saha and "thinks it is all sorted". Redknapp added: "He is sharp and he has got good movement".

Chelsea
have completed the signing of teenage Nottingham Forest striker Patrick Bamford, for a reported fee of £1.5m. Bamford will join the Blues reserve-team set-up, and Forest have negotiated a sell-on clause fo the 18-year-old.

From Will Rider, via text: "To those who commend Wenger's 'genius' signing - it wasn't inspired at all. He blatantly went for Gotze, got rejected and bought another (to quote Wenger's handbook) 'player with potential'."

QPR manager Mark Hughes on his transfer dealings since taking charge at Loftus Road on 10 January: "I'm delighted with the work we've done so far. Djibril Cisse knows the Premier League and he gives us pace and power which we have been lacking. On Bobby Zamora: "Not sure if that is confirmed yet."

2200: THE TRANSFER WINDOW SHUTS IN ONE HOUR

2158: It's all over at Goodison Park, where Everton have beaten Premier League leaders Manchester City 1-0. Manchester United's 2-0 win over Stoke means Sir Alex Ferguson's side are now level on points with their neighbours at the top of the table. Tottenham and Liverpool were the other winners tonight, while Chelsea rescued a point late on against Swansea. That's the top-flight action over and done with for the evening... which leaves us just over an hour to tidy up a few outstanding transfers...

QPR co-owner Amit Bhatia on Twitter: "Heading home after a long day at Loftus Road. We've done well and I'm exhausted."
Anon, via text on 81111: "Gooners signing of Dortmund's Eisfeld - genius signing. He has the potential to be great. Well done Wenger. Let's hope Arsenal back him."

AndyGraysdouble on Twitter: "Re 2108. If Ravel Morrison is looking forward to the Premier League soon, he'd better be hoping West Ham get decent defenders by 11pm."

Just to explain, the Hammers are top of the Championship but got, erm, hammered tonight, losing 5-1 at Ipswich.

2140: Attacking midfielder Thomas Eisfeld, 19, on his move to Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund: "It's a real honour to be team mates with the great players at Arsenal, and also training everyday with players like Tomas Rosicky - who I grew up watching play at Dortmund. I will give it everything I have here and do my best to make the manager, players and fans happy.

2133: It's more of a trickle than a flood but the transfers are still coming in. BBC Sport understands talks are under way regarding Keith Andrews moving from Blackburn to West Brom. A few clubs have been chasing the 31-year-old former Wolves midfielder this week

2128: The goals have been flying in around the grounds in the Premier League. Darron Gibson's deflected goal has put Everton ahead against leaders Manchester City. Dirk Kuyt has wrapped up the points for Liverpool against Wolves and James MacArthur has pulled a goal back for Wigan against Tottenham. Oh, and Chelsea's Ashley Cole has just been sent off against Swansea after picking up his second booking. The Welsh side still lead 1-0.

2123: DONE DEAL
West Bromwich Albion
right-back Gonzalo Jara Reyes, 26, and left-back Joe Mattock, 21, have joined Championship outfit Brighton on loan until the end of the season.

2121: Have any of you lot seen Bobby Zamora recently? Do me a favour if you do, and tell him to get a move on and complete his £4m move from Fulham to QPR. Please.

2117: Former Liverpool and Sunderland striker Djibril Cisse on his return to the Premier League with QPR: "QPR have a highly ambitious project. When I talked to the manager he spoke highly of the club and where he wants to take it over the next few years. He wanted to sign me at Manchester City and now I'm finally here with him at QPR. I have unfinished business in England."

2112: Frederic Veseli, who was part of the Switzerland side that won the Under-17 World Cup in 2009, never really got a look in at Manchester City, although he did play on their pre-season tour of the United States last summer. On his move to Old Trafford, Veseli said: "I am very happy and it is an honour to sign for Manchester United. Manchester United has a long history of younger players coming through and hopefully I can follow and do the same."

From Anon, via text: "Scholes and Henry are back where they belong - when is Lloyd Owusu coming back to Griffin Park? Sign someone Brentford."

2100: THE TRANSFER WINDOW SHUTS IN TWO HOURS

2058: It's all happening at Goodison Park. Everton's new signing Nikica Jelavic, who is probably wondering why a Toffees fan chose to handcuff himself to a post during the first half, has just been paraded round the pitch at half-time. He got a great reception, too.

2056: It's January transfer deadline day, so we should probably have expected Andy Carroll to get involved at some point. Exactly a year on from his £35m move to Liverpool from Newcastle, Caroll has put the Reds ahead against Wolves after making the most of some slack defending.

Handshake
2055: DONE DEAL See, I told you stuff was still happening. Chelsea reserve team forward Milan Lalkovic, 20, has agreed to join Dutch club ADO Den Haag on loan until 30 June. Blackburn defender Martin Olsson, whose twin brother Marcus joined him at Ewood Park earlier today, on Twitter: "I'm very happy that my brother has signed for Blackburn and thanks for the positive tweets."

2041: Unbelievable scenes at Goodison Park. A fan has handcuffed himself to the goal posts. Suffice to say the game has stopped while they look for the key, or a hacksaw.

From Anon, via text: "Now that Mariappa won't come to Newcastle, it's time for Pardew to step up and sign Samba."

BBC Radio 5 Live
Former England full-back and BBC Radio 5 live pundit Danny Mills on Everton's transfer dealings: "Harry Redknapp has a tremendous ability to rescue players, but Louis Saha just isn't fit enough for me. I'm surprised other teams weren't interested in Jelavic. Everton certainly need a striker and I assume they're happy with that deal - get Saha out and bring an in-form striker in."

Handshake
2036: DONE DEAL We've had to wait an eternity for this one to go through but I can finally confirm that 26-year-old Croatia striker Nikica Jelavic has completed his £5.5m move from Rangers to Everton, and signed a four-and-a-half year contract. The first of a flurry of late deals? I hope so...

From Will walking his dog in Stanley Park, via text: "Re 1902. Defoe has just landed in a helicopter on Stanley Park. I've just seen him get bundled into the back of a Ford Courteener."

QPR midfielder Joey Barton on Twitter: "Deadline day, getting tasty now. Great move for Bradley Orr to Blackburn. Good signing for them. Sorely missed at our place. Great pro... Already some exciting additions to our squad, hopefully a few more before it closes."

2024: More goals. Luka Modric has put Tottenham 2-0 ahead against Wigan, with another super strike, and Spurs are completely dominant, which is not surprising. Here's a bit of a shock, though... Scott Sinclair has hooked Swansea into the lead against Chelsea, latching on to a loose ball from a free-kick. Sinclair refused to celebrate against his former club.

BBC football reporter Mike Sewell on Twitter: "Huddersfield confirm signing of Falkirk defender Murray Wallace on a contract until 2014. He returns to Falkirk on loan until end of season. I understand fee is an initial £300k potentially rising to £700k. Wallace turned down both Brighton and Ipswich."

2018: Gareth Bale has just put Tottenham ahead against Wigan, and it was a real cracker too. The Welshman chests down a delicious ball from Luka Modric and cracked home a peach of a shot. If there are any managers out there considering a late bid for Bale, I reckon that has added another £10m to his asking price. About £160m should be enough to get him though...

BBC's Football League Show presenter Manish Bhasin on Twitter: "Good luck to Marvin Sordell if he gets a big money move tonight. I'd like to think the Football League Show has played a small part!"

Norwich City chief executive David McNally on Twitter, possibly hinting at some late news from Carrow Road? "It is always worth watching the last few hours of transfer deadline day."

2014: Things are still happening, though. MK Dons have released winger Anthony McNamee by mutual consent. The 28-year-old made had just eight appearances since signing from Norwich in the summer.

2012: No goals anywhere in the top flight yet tonight, and no really tasty transfers to tell you about either. I suspect we might learn more about a few of the moves that are being mooted - involving the likes of Everton, Spurs, Manchester City and Swansea, when the managers speak to the media at the final whistle.

A real heavyweight deal, this. York City have signed versatile Sheffield United midfielder Erik Tonne on loan until the end of the season. The 20-year-old Norwegian joined the Blades from Strindheim in April 2011.

2003: Not long left now people, and here is where we are at. Everton are still to wrap up their £5.5m deal for Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic, and are close to selling Louis Saha to Tottenham. Should the Saha deal go through, Roman Pavlyuchenko will be allowed to leave to join Lokomotiv Moscow. Oh, and Bobby Zamora is STILL on the brink of joining QPR. The Fulham striker is either having a medical or discussing personal terms but that is expected to go through before 2300 GMT, which is when the window closes. Got all that? Good.

Alex McLean, Spurs fan, London, via text on 81111: "Sooner Pavlyuchenko leaves the better in my opinion. I'd happily drive him to Russia."

2000: THE TRANSFER WINDOW SHUTS IN THREE HOURS

1959: Ipswich's attempt to raid crisis club Portsmouth looks like it will end in failure on three front. Along with defenders Jason Pearce and Joel Ward (see below), Pompey keeper Stephen Henderson will not be joining Ipswich Town. Henderson has tweeted: "Putting this to bed now! I'm not going anywhere, I'm very happy at Portsmouth and look forward to Hull Saturday!"

Breaking news
1954: You know what, it seems there is something in this Roman Pavlyuchenko story. BBC Sport understands Spurs and Lokomotiv Moscow are in talks over a move, but nothing concrete yet. Tottenham signed him from Spartak Moscow, where he is still a big favourite, so he would be returning home to join his former club's big rivals.

samblitz7 on Twitter: "Re 1934. Judging by Wenger's history maybe Hleb will be next to put pen to paper at Arsenal?"

1934: EURO ROUND-UP
Time for some news of what has been happening away from these shores. In Italy, AC Milan did not get Carlos Tevez but they have signed former Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari on loan from rivals Inter until the end of the season. Also on the way out of Inter is midfielder Thiago Motta, who has moved to big spending Paris Saint-Germain in a deal thought to be worth around 10 million Euros (about £8.3m). Oh, and do any of you remember former Manchester City forward Valeri Bojinov, who always seemed to be injured during his time at Eastlands? The Bulgarian is set for a second spell with Serie A outfit Lecce after joining the club on loan from Sporting Lisbon. Meanwhile, in Spain, Barcelona have announced that former Arsenal forward Alexander Hleb has been released from his contract.

1929: By the way, I will keep you updated with how tonight's Premier League games are going, but for more in-depth coverage you should join Mike Henson elsewhere on the BBC Sport website. Transfers or goals - you decide.

1925: Watford fans, be afraid. Be very afraid. Adrian Mariappa is playing for the Hornets against Millwall tonight and looks likely to be staying put. But striker Marvin Sordell, who looked very lively when I saw him against Tottenham in the FA Cup last week, is not playing. BBC Sport understands he was withdrawn from the starting line-up at the request of the club's owner.

From Anon, via text: "Just seen someone on Brighton Pier eating a pot of jellied eels. I think it's Michael Owen!"

Steven Pienaar, mentioned as a makeweight in the deal, is on the bench for Spurs against Wigan tonight - again, that doesn't mean it won't happen.

1920: I told you at 1830 it was one to watch out for, and it appears I was right. BBC Radio Nottingham understands that Chelsea are set to sign 18-year-old striker Patrick Bamford from Nottingham Forest for about £1.5m. Watford defender AKA Wigan and Newcastle target Adrian Mariappa is in the Hornets XI to face Millwall at the New Den tonight, which should put to bed any chance of him leaving the club. Deadline day would just not be the same if Tottenham were not rumoured to be trying to sign big name late doors. Still plenty of time for Harry to get involved, speaking of which...

Former England defender Martin Keown on Football Focus Transfer Deadline Day special (which is on now, on the BBC News channel and this website): "There's no big surprise that most of the activity is around the clubs with new managers. Mark Hughes said he was desperate to strengthen his strikeforce when he joined QPR. And he's trying to do just that by signing Cisse and Zamora. Zamora is the interesting one because Hughes knows him from his Fulham days. He knows what he is capable of and QPR can build around him."

Chief football writer Phil McNulty: "Plenty of activity behind the scenes at Everton as they play Manchester City at Goodison Park. Nikica Jelavic is expected to complete the formalities of his £5.5m move from Rangers. Louis Saha's move to Spurs should then be confirmed and I'm told the prospect of Steven Pienaar returning to Everton is still a possibilty."

Stuart, bemused Fulham fan, via text on 81111: "'One Pogrebnyak, there's only one Pogrebnyak.' That's going to be an easy chant on the Cottage terraces!"

1814: News like this won't help us break the £50m mark, let alone £200m. Leicester City have had a £1m bid rejected by Fleetwood Town for free-scoring striker Jamie Vardy, BBC Radio Leicester understands. The 25-year-old has scored 21 goals in 24 games this season but Blue Square Bet Premier table-toppers Fleetwood have previously said they are not interested in selling him. Probably because promotion to the Football League is in sight.

1810: By the way, the January transfer window spending in 2011 went well over the £200m mark. So far in 2012, we are hovering around £40m. Less money being spent, then, but that doesn't mean we won't see a late blockbuster of a deal. Even if it almost definitely won't involve Carlos Tevez...

1806: Here's some big news. Ok, it doesn't involve transfers but it is still pretty massive, I'm sure you'll agree. The new BBC Sport website will be ready for its relaunch at 0600 GMT on Wednesday. So, after tonight's transfer deeds are done and dusted, take a nap, and return over breakfast to see what we've done with your favourite sport site.

BBC football commentator Jacqui Oatley on Twitter: "Interesting that Bradley Orr's been giving interviews about his Blackburn Rovers move. I'm told deal definitely not done yet!"

1802: Now then. Big Ben striking six is very significant for the blue half of Manchester. English clubs still have until 2300 GMT to sign or sell players but the transfer window in Italy is now CLOSED. That means AC Milan will NOT be signing out-of-favour Manchester City striker Carlo Tevez this month, despite various rumours they were trying to resurrect that deal.

1724: One of the novelties of today's deadline is that teams are having to balance chasing deals before 2300 GMT with preparing for games which start in the next couple of hours. One example is Swansea, who play Chelsea at 1945 GMT and still haven't tied up a deal for Curtis Obeng, although talks continue. BBC Sport understands the Swans do not want to pay "too much money" for another highly-rated defender - Peterborough's Ryan Bennett - so that deal looks far less likely.

While the day started with Genk midfielder Kevin de Bruyne joining Chelsea, arguably the biggest transfer so far is Lazio striker Djibril Cisse signing for QPR. Sunderland have taken Manchester City left-back Wayne Bridge on loan until the end of the season and another temporary move sees Bolton snap up Arsenal winger Ryo Miyaichi. 1654: Here's some news of a move that looks like it won't be happening. Rangers have confirmed they have had a bid for Norwich striker Grant Holt turned down by the Canaries. The likes of Chris Woods, 'Disco' Dale Gordon and, er, Kevin Drinkell have all made the move from Carrow Road to Ibrox in the past but, with Norwich doing so well in the Premier League and with him having cult status in Norfolk, you have to ask why the 30-year-old Holt would want to leave, even if Norwich were willing to sell him? Thoughts?

1649: Here's Wayne Bridge talking about his loan move to Sunderland, and the chance to play some football after his long spell in the shadows at Manchester City: "I'm delighted to make the move. I have met the manager and the lads and everyone seems great. I'm just excited to start playing football and playing a few games. The club is on the up - the manager has come in and done very well. 0808: RUMOUR MILL
The 'Andy Carroll leaving Liverpool' rumour just does not seem to go away. Quite a few publications have been carrying that story on Tuesday. 0802: If you want a reminder of how tempted clubs have been to spend a few pennies in January then let us rewind back to 2011 when Fernando Torres joined Chelsea for a British record £50m from Liverpool. That started the chain that saw the Anfield club sign Andy Carroll from Newcastle for £35m and Luis Suarez for £22.7m from Ajax. Newcastle in turn signed... ah yes. So, what lies in store today? The BBC Sport transfer deadline day gossip column has thrown up some interesting rumours...

0800: Hello. I'm Saj Chowdhury. Today is the final day clubs have got the chance to stick or twist this season. There has been little activity from the Premier League 20 so far, but we all know temptation grows stronger as the time ticks down. BBC Sport will bring you extensive coverage of all the transfers across television, radio, online and the Red Button. Ready?
