Thanks to you lot for keeping me company over the last eight hours or so, to Saj Chowdhury and Sam Sheringham for their work earlier on today, and to all the BBC journalists who fed news into the commentary today. Keep checking the BBC website for news of Marvin Sordell's move from Watford to Bolton and Ryan Nelsen's potential move to Tottenham - and hopefully we will have news of what happened to them by the time I see you all again for Wednesday night's Premier League games. A lot less money has been spent over the course of the month too - an estimated £60m compared to around £225m - but I guess the introduction of Financial Fair Play was always going to have that sort of effect.

0038: Last August it was Peter Crouch who kept us all waiting. This time it is (still) Marvin Sordell and Ryan Nelsen. Clearly, if they are signing for Bolton and Tottenham respectively, then it that happened before the 2300 GMT deadline... but getting official confirmation takes a little bit longer. Almost two hours (and counting) longer to be exact.

0016: BBC Sport understands the paperwork surrounding Watford striker Marvin Sordell's £3m move to Bolton is all but done, and the move should be officially confirmed soon. Defender Adrian Mariappa, who played at Millwall tonight, was the Hornets player who seemed most likely to leave Vicarage Road but he will be staying until the summer after Wigan failed with a bid today. So, the Championship side keep the player they thought they would be losing, and lose one they thought they would be keeping. What do their fans make of that?

0006: Still no news on Ryan Nelsen's arrival from Blackburn but Tottenham say they have agreed a fee to sell their 30-year-old striker Roman Pavlyuchenko to Lokomotiv Moscow. Pavlyuchenko will have to undergo a medical and agree personal terms before that becomes a done deal but, as I said earlier, the Russian deadline is not for another three weeks.

Former England defender Martin Keown on Match of the Day's Transfer Deadline Day special: "QPR look as though they've been the busiest with Mark Hughes going for what he knows. It looks promising. He's got players in who he knows can do a job."

0001: Here's Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers on his new signing from Wrexham, 22-year-old right-back Curtis Obeng: "Technically he can deal with the ball, he's calm in possession and passes it well. He has great, great pace. And no doubt mentally he is hungry and I like hungry players that have a point to prove and want to get better."

Everton defender Johnny Heitinga on Twitter: "Pienaar coming back is great news. What a great day for the Blues! Sleep well."

2359: Sorry, it's not ALL about Marvin Sordell (now, that's a sentence I never thought I'd write). We're also waitng for confirmation from Tottenham that they have signed a 34-year-old New Zealand defender with long-standing knee trouble. I'll bring you news of Ryan Nelsen's move from Blackburn when I get any.

Steven Pienaar on his last-gasp loan move from Tottenham to Everton on Twitter: "Happy days. Look like we just beat the clock. Holding thumbs for next few hours."

My guess is that Everton were offering more money up front. Rangers needed cash quickly.

2353: Which just leaves us waiting on a 20-year-old Watford striker. Bolton have reportedly agreed a £3m fee for Hornets frontman and youth-team product Marvin Sordell, who has scored 10 goals in 29 games this season, and he was discussing personal terms earlier tonight. Is he the man to keep Wanderers in the Premier League? Mind you, he will have some help. The expected departure of Kevin Davies, subject of a bid from Sunderland on Monday, was one of the deals that, like Owen Coyle's attempt to sign Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace, did not happen.

2347: DONE DEAL
Everton have confirmed they have signed their former midfielder Steven Pienaar, 29, on loan from Tottenham for the rest of the season.

He's a striker who's had to feed off scraps throughout his time at The Lane, yet still has a healthy goals to games ratio, while 'star players' like Adebayor stand offside for 90 minutes week in week out. Louis Saha is an intriguing deal and could prove a masterstroke but I'm gutted to lose the Russian. Nelsen over Samba is straight up bizarre."

2343: Right then, that just leaves Bolton target Marvin Sordell and potential Everton loanee Steven Pienaar as players with their futures to be decided tonight.

Blimey, that was quick. It is still subject to paperwork but Norwich have definitely signed 21-year-old defender Ryan Bennett from Peterborough on a three-and-a-half year deal. And he will rejoin Posh until 28 February on loan.

2336: Here's an update on Ryan Bennett's move from Peterborough to Norwich, which Grimsby fans were were waiting on (below). BBC Sport understands Posh are waiting on the paper that confirms he will return to them on loan, which will be for a month to give them time to find a replacement. If it goes through, the fee will be a record sale for Peterborough, around £3m, with Grimsby receiving a sell-on percentage.

Fulham have sealed the signing of Portsmouth's 18-year-old winger Ryan Williams for an undisclosed fee. The Australian, who has signed a two-and-a-half year deal, played for the west London club's reserve team against Wolves on Monday night.

2320: We're not waiting on much now (apart from Steven Pienaar) but we are still in the dark over Marvin Sordell's proposed £3m move from Watford to Bolton. He was discussing personal terms last I heard...

2316: There's always at least one. Yes, the window has closed but... Steven Pienaar could still be on his way back to Everton after all in a loan deal. I'll keep you posted.

Troubled Blue Square Bet Premier side Darlington have made a double transfer - Sunderland defender Liam Bagnall on loan and Clark Keltie on non-contract terms.

This one affects Blackburn too. Wolves have signed 25-year-old Tottenham centre-back Sebastien Bassong on loan for the rest of the season which, going on what Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said earlier, would suggest Ryan Nelsen is on his way to White Hart Lane.

I guess the Blackburn defender that most people might have expected Tottenham to try and sign today would be Chris Samba. He is definitely staying at Ewood Park though.

This one definitely beat the deadline. Tottenham have brought in Everton striker Louis Saha, initially on loan until the end of the season but with the option of a permanent deal for the 33-year-old.

2305: West Brom head coach Roy Hodgson on his capture of Blackburn's Republic of Ireland midfielder Keith Andrews: "Keith is a player I know well and have admired for several years. He's a flexible midfielder who can play in a number of roles across midfield. He will bring experience to the squad and also has a good scoring record."

2303: And that was the January transfer window, 2012. It wasn't a classic, but a string of late deals meant it wasn't dull either. Who beat the deadline, and who didn't? I guess we will find out in the next hour or two..

Swansea City have completed a deal for 22-year-old Wrexham right-back Curtis Obeng, who has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at the Liberty Stadium.

2255: QPR boss Mark Hughes on the £4m signing of Bobby Zamora from the his former club Fulham: "Bobby is a guy that makes things happen on the pitch - be it scoring goals or creating chances for others. He's a great foil for any team. We needed a player of his ilk at the football club and I couldn't be more delighted." The England striker added: "I think this was the right time for me to have a fresh challenge."

2252: So, as the window prepares to SLAM shut, Marvin Sordell (to Bolton), Nicky Maynard (to West Ham), Roman Pavlyuchenko (to Lokomotiv Moscow) and Ryan Nelsen (to Tottenham) appear to be the big deals we are waiting on. Are there anymore out there?

At last! QPR have sealed the £4m capture of Fulham striker Bobby Zamora. The England international, 31, has signed a two-and-a-half year deal at Loftus Road. What took him so long... ?

West Bromwich Albion have completed a swoop for Blackburn midfielder Keith Andrews. The 31-year-old Republic of Ireland star joins the Baggies on free transfer until end of season.

2246: DONE DEAL Manchester City
have officially announced the arrival of Chile midfielder David Pizarro, 32, on a free loan from Roma for the rest of the season.

2244: We knew at 6pm that he wouldn't be going to Italy, and reports tonight from other sources that out-of-favour Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez is looking to join Russian or South American clubs are understood by BBC Sport to be wide of the mark. A move to a western European club in the summer is still the most likely outcome for the player. The Russian transfer deadline not until 24 February, and the South American deadline is at a similar time so don't expect that story to disappear anytime soon.

2240: One potential move which went awfully quiet was Wilfried Zaha's switch from Crystal Palace to Bolton, after Wanderers made an improved £7m bid for the 19-year-old winger. Mind you, Bolton are now pre-occupied with wrapping up a deal for Watford striker Marvin Sordell, with just 20 minutes of the transfer window to go.

2236: More from White Hart Lane, and this concerns Blackburn too. Louis Saha's move to Tottenham will be a loan until the end of the season, with the option of another season on a permanent basis after that, depending on the 33-year-old's fitness. And Sebastien Bassong's move to Wolves depends on whether Spurs can bring in 34-year-old Ryan Nelsen on a free transfer from Blackburn. I'm not sure I understand that last bit - Nelsen is a decent defender but he has a whole load of injury problems.

Northampton Town are doing enough deals to keep this deadline day going single-handedly. The Football League's bottom club have given a contract goalkeeper Neal Kitson, 26, who arrives from USL Professional Division side Rochester Rhinos. The Cobblers have also signed striker Lewis Wilson from Newport Pagnell Town on a contract until the end of the season.

Two of them at the City ground. Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest, who lost to Burnley tonight and are on a dreadful run, have bolstered their backline with the signings of two Premier League defenders. Stoke City's experienced full-back Danny Higginbotham and Scott Wootton, Manchester United's 20-year-old centre-back, both join on loan until the end of the season.

2225: Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini on his move for Roma midfielder David Pizzaro: "We took David Pizzaro on loan. He is a good midfielder, he has experience and I know him very well. I hope he can help us out."

Sam Allardyce has been reunited with Ricardo Vaz Te after the Barnsley striker completed his move to Championship rivals West Ham. Big Sam, who brought the Portuguese player to England during his spell in charge at Bolton, has paid an undisclosed fee for the 25-year-old.

2222: Everton boss David Moyes, speaking to the media after his side's 1-0 win over Manchester City about his deadline day dealings: "If I can get out of these interviews I might do something else."

2214: Oh, and Harry Redknapp also said that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is handling striker Roman Pavlyuchenko's prospective move to with Lokomotiv Moscow, and he thinks that will go through too. I knew Spurs would be busy, they always are...

2212: More news from Tottenham. Lots of it. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp says he tried to sign Juventus winger Milos Krasic this week but he only wanted the Serbia international on loan and the Italian side were only interested in a permanent deal. Redknapp also says he could not let Steven Pienaar goes back to Everton because he has too many injuries and has revealed that Wolves want to sign Sebastien Bassong but he will need to complete a deal for an unnamed defender before he lets that one go through.

BBC Scotland's senior football reporter Chris McLaughlin on Twitter: "Leon Best will NOT be joining Celtic."

2206: Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says Spurs have agreed a deal with Everton for striker Louis Saha and "thinks it is all sorted". Redknapp added: "He is sharp and he has got good movement".

Chelsea have completed the signing of teenage Nottingham Forest striker Patrick Bamford, for a reported fee of £1.5m. Bamford will join the Blues reserve-team set-up, and Forest have negotiated a sell-on clause fo the 18-year-old.

2158: It's all over at Goodison Park, where Everton have beaten Premier League leaders Manchester City 1-0. Manchester United's 2-0 win over Stoke means Sir Alex Ferguson's side are now level on points with their neighbours at the top of the table. Tottenham and Liverpool were the other winners tonight, while Chelsea rescued a point late on against Swansea. That's the top-flight action over and done with for the evening... which leaves us just over an hour to tidy up a few outstanding transfers...

2133: It's more of a trickle than a flood but the transfers are still coming in. BBC Sport understands talks are under way regarding Keith Andrews moving from Blackburn to West Brom. A few clubs have been chasing the 31-year-old former Wolves midfielder this week

2128: The goals have been flying in around the grounds in the Premier League. Darron Gibson's deflected goal has put Everton ahead against leaders Manchester City. Dirk Kuyt has wrapped up the points for Liverpool against Wolves and James MacArthur has pulled a goal back for Wigan against Tottenham. Oh, and Chelsea's Ashley Cole has just been sent off against Swansea after picking up his second booking. The Welsh side still lead 1-0.

West Bromwich Albion right-back Gonzalo Jara Reyes, 26, and left-back Joe Mattock, 21, have joined Championship outfit Brighton on loan until the end of the season.

2117: Former Liverpool and Sunderland striker Djibril Cisse on his return to the Premier League with QPR: "QPR have a highly ambitious project. When I talked to the manager he spoke highly of the club and where he wants to take it over the next few years. He wanted to sign me at Manchester City and now I'm finally here with him at QPR. I have unfinished business in England."

2112: Frederic Veseli, who was part of the Switzerland side that won the Under-17 World Cup in 2009, never really got a look in at Manchester City, although he did play on their pre-season tour of the United States last summer. On his move to Old Trafford, Veseli said: "I am very happy and it is an honour to sign for Manchester United. Manchester United has a long history of younger players coming through and hopefully I can follow and do the same."

Another one that we have been waiting a while to be signed and sealed but Ravel Morrison has now completed his move from Manchester United to West Ham. The midfielder, who turns 19 on Thursday, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal after the clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

2058: It's all happening at Goodison Park. Everton's new signing Nikica Jelavic, who is probably wondering why a Toffees fan chose to handcuff himself to a post during the first half, has just been paraded round the pitch at half-time. He got a great reception, too.

2056: It's January transfer deadline day, so we should probably have expected Andy Carroll to get involved at some point. Exactly a year on from his £35m move to Liverpool from Newcastle, Caroll has put the Reds ahead against Wolves after making the most of some slack defending.

2055: DONE DEAL See, I told you stuff was still happening. Chelsea reserve team forward Milan Lalkovic, 20, has agreed to join Dutch club ADO Den Haag on loan until 30 June. It is the second loan spell for the Slovakian Under 21 international, who made six appearances for Doncaster earlier this season.

Scott Sinclair has hooked Swansea into the lead against Chelsea, latching on to a loose ball from a free-kick. Sinclair refused to celebrate against his former club.

A real heavyweight deal, this. York City have signed versatile Sheffield United midfielder Erik Tonne on loan until the end of the season. The 20-year-old Norwegian joined the Blades from Strindheim in April 2011.

2003: Not long left now people, and here is where we are at. Everton are still to wrap up their £5.5m deal for Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic, and are close to selling Louis Saha to Tottenham. Should the Saha deal go through, Roman Pavlyuchenko will be allowed to leave to join Lokomotiv Moscow. Oh, and Bobby Zamora is STILL on the brink of joining QPR. The Fulham striker is either having a medical or discussing personal terms but that is expected to go through before 2300 GMT, which is when the window closes. Got all that? Good.

1959: Ipswich's attempt to raid crisis club Portsmouth looks like it will end in failure on three front. Along with defenders Jason Pearce and Joel Ward (see below), Pompey keeper Stephen Henderson will not be joining Ipswich Town. Henderson has tweeted: "Putting this to bed now! I'm not going anywhere, I'm very happy at Portsmouth and look forward to Hull Saturday!"

1954: You know what, it seems there is something in this Roman Pavlyuchenko story. BBC Sport understands Spurs and Lokomotiv Moscow are in talks over a move, but nothing concrete yet. Tottenham signed him from Spartak Moscow, where he is still a big favourite, so he would be returning home to join his former club's big rivals.

"It is right for both lads to move on," said boss Aidy Boothroyd. "They are both good lads, but they need to be playing regular football. I wish them both well and thank them for their efforts."

In Italy, AC Milan did not get Carlos Tevez but they have signed former Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari on loan from rivals Inter until the end of the season. Also on the way out of Inter is midfielder Thiago Motta, who has moved to big spending Paris Saint-Germain in a deal thought to be worth around 10 million Euros (about £8.3m). Oh, and do any of you remember former Manchester City forward Valeri Bojinov, who always seemed to be injured during his time at Eastlands? The Bulgarian is set for a second spell with Serie A outfit Lecce after joining the club on loan from Sporting Lisbon. Meanwhile, in Spain, Barcelona have announced that former Arsenal forward Alexander Hleb has been released from his contract.

1925: Watford fans, be afraid. Be very afraid. Adrian Mariappa is playing for the Hornets against Millwall tonight and looks likely to be staying put. But striker Marvin Sordell, who looked very lively when I saw him against Tottenham in the FA Cup last week, is not playing. BBC Sport understands he was withdrawn from the starting line-up at the request of the club's owner.

BBC Radio Nottingham understands that Chelsea are set to sign 18-year-old striker Patrick Bamford from Nottingham Forest for about £1.5m. Bamford has only played two first-team games but has been in prolific form in the FA Youth Cup this season, and Chelsea were one of a number of clubs to take note.

I've just spoken to officials at QPR - they say business is pretty much done for the day, They will be very happy to get the Zamora deal done in the next couple of hours. Apart from Zamora, business is done for the day."

Arsenal have confirmed they have signed 19-year-old attacking midfielder Thomas Eisfeld from Borussia Dortmund on a long-term contract. The Gunners will have to pay around £400,000 in compensation for Eisfeld, who was out of contract next summer.

1840: DONE DEAL Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman has delved into the Ryman League for the second time today, snapping up Dulwich Hamlet defender Michael Chambers. The 17-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at Selhurst Park.

1838: A long awaited update on QPR's attempt to sign Fulham striker Bobby Zamora now. In case you've forgotten, the two clubs have already agreed a £4m fee, and now BBC Sport understands Zamora is undergoing a medical with Rangers. Talks over finalising his personal terms will continue this evening. No done deal yet, though.

Not a bad turnaround for a man who was released by Blue Square Bet South side Thurrock in the summer. Appiah almost joined Blackpool earlier in January - is he the new Ian Wright?

The 25-year-old has scored 21 goals in 24 games this season but Blue Square Bet Premier table-toppers Fleetwood have previously said they are not interested in selling him. Probably because promotion to the Football League is in sight.

BBC Sport understands that Forest boss Steve Cotterill is hoping to tie up a deal for Stoke's veteran defender Danny Higginbotham, 33, who has also been tracked by Birmingham and Ipswich, following Wes Morgan's £1m move to Leicester. Watch this space, Forest fans.

Oxford United have signed Wycombe Wanderers forward Scott Rendell on loan until the end of the season and brought in Doncaster midfielder Mark Wilson on a free transfer. And, last but not least, Hayes & Yeading have re-signed midfielder James Mulley on a one-month loan deal from AFC Wimbledon. The 23-year-old left Hayes in October 2010 for Chelmsford.

1740: Anyone else remember when Colin Kazim-Richards was the Coca-Cola Kid? The former Brighton and Sheffield United striker - who the Seagulls signed from Bury with the proceeds of a fizzy drinks competition for fans, has joined Olympiakos until the end of the season on a loan deal from Galatasaray . The defending Greek champions will have an option to sign the London-born Turkey international permanently, on a two-year contract, in the summer.

I know a few Leyton Orient fans who have been dreading this moment. Their popular 26-year-old captain Stephen Dawson has joined Championship Barnsley, signing a two-and-a-half year deal at Oakwell after the clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

1724: One of the novelties of today's deadline is that teams are having to balance chasing deals before 2300 GMT with preparing for games which start in the next couple of hours. One example is Swansea, who play Chelsea at 1945 GMT and still haven't tied up a deal for Curtis Obeng, although talks continue. BBC Sport understands the Swans do not want to pay "too much money" for another highly-rated defender - Peterborough's Ryan Bennett - so that deal looks far less likely.

While the day started with Genk midfielder Kevin de Bruyne joining Chelsea, arguably the biggest transfer so far is Lazio striker Djibril Cisse signing for QPR. Sunderland have taken Manchester City left-back Wayne Bridge on loan until the end of the season and another temporary move sees Bolton snap up Arsenal winger Ryo Miyaichi. Blackburn now have twin brothers on their books after bringing in Marcus Olsson, sibling of Martin, and West Brom have completed the acquisition of Birmingham centre-back Liam Ridgwell.

1654: Here's some news of a move that looks like it won't be happening. Rangers have confirmed they have had a bid for Norwich striker Grant Holt turned down by the Canaries. The likes of Chris Woods, 'Disco' Dale Gordon and, er, Kevin Drinkell have all made the move from Carrow Road to Ibrox in the past but, with Norwich doing so well in the Premier League and with him having cult status in Norfolk, you have to ask why the 30-year-old Holt would want to leave, even if Norwich were willing to sell him? Thoughts?

1649: Here's Wayne Bridge talking about his loan move to Sunderland, and the chance to play some football after his long spell in the shadows at Manchester City: "I'm delighted to make the move. I have met the manager and the lads and everyone seems great. I'm just excited to start playing football and playing a few games. The club is on the up - the manager has come in and done very well. Just coming in and speaking to him, everything has been positive. I have trained with the lads and they are a great bunch who are feeling really positive. 1637: QPR manager Mark Hughes has been pretty busy today but he says his dealings will not have a negative impact on his side's preparations for Wednesday night's Premier League game against Aston Villa. "Having to prepare for a game is obviously important from my point of view as it is that my focus isn't taken away from the game, which it won't be," he said. "It is the distractions you have to be conscious of and make sure they don't have an impact on your performance."

1614: News from Wales now, and Swansea City are in talks to sign former England youth international Curtis Obeng from non-league Wrexham. BBC Sport understands Swansea are closing in on signing the 22-year-old right-back who has impressed for the Blue Square Bet Premier high-fliers. Swans boss Brendan Rodgers watched Obeng play for Wrexham in their FA Cup third round replay defeat to Brighton. The Premier League club are also interested in Peterborough United's England under-21 defender Ryan Bennett.

1146: Derby County's incoming transfer business seems to have been completed yesterday with the signing of Tottenham midfielder Tom Carroll, but midfielder Paul Green could well be leaving. Meanwhile Burton Albion fans will no doubt be hoping they keep hold of top scorer Billy Kee. Crawley Town are interested with Brewers boss Paul Peschisolido saying they have received a "substantial" bid. BBC Radio Derby understands that Kee is keen to stay in the East Midlands for family reasons but maybe we haven't heard the last of this one.

Deloitte's Sports Business Group have been doing the sums and they've worked out that at 0945 this morning, spending by Premier League clubs had reached £35m, compared with £90m at the same time last year.

The 'Andy Carroll leaving Liverpool' rumour just does not seem to go away. Quite a few publications have been carrying that story on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Daily Mail are carrying a story suggesting that striker Emmanuel Adebayor is set to seal a permanent deal at Tottenham. The fee for the Manchester City striker? £8m.
