‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’: Which Song Is the Catchiest? (Poll)
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.] It’s no secret that James Gunn loves a good tune, and while he pays homage to classics in his Guardians of the Galaxy films and on HBO Max‘s Peacemaker, particularly the show’s opening theme sequence, he’s stepping into new territory with The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. It features two live performances, “I Don’t Know What Christmas Is (But Christmastime Is Here)” and “Here It Is Christmas Time.” The first tune is original to the special, and the second is a 2007 song from The Old 97’s. The band features in the film and performs both songs. (Credit: Disney+/Marvel Studios) In a franchise like Guardians, music is key, and the live performances add a special touch considering the holiday theme. As viewers who have tuned in will know, the installment focuses on Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Drax’s (Dave Bautista) ...

Colleen Atwood Crafts Bloody Perfect ‘Wednesday’ Looks

Colleen Atwood Crafts Bloody Perfect ‘Wednesday’ Looks
Wednesday Addams is many things, but you wouldn’t think of her as a dancer. But in the premiere season of Netflix’s “Wednesday,” we see the titular character, expertly played by Jenna Ortega, navigate the world of high school dances in Episode 4, “Woe Is the Night.” The Rave’N dance sees Wednesday strut her stuff and showcase a beautiful dress designed by series director Tim Burton’s long-time costume designer, Colleen Atwood.

Wednesday’s dress had to fulfill several requirements, according to Atwood, who talked to IndieWire via Zoom. Since Wednesday was going to dance in it it had to have a flow that wouldn’t impede Ortega’s movements while looking “sort of otherwordly.” Initially conceived as something similar to a 1950s prom dress, Atwood assumed she’d end up making the dress from scratch, especially since Wednesday buys it from a vintage store in the series. “Cut

Lacey Chabert Explains the Fun Hallmark Cameo in ‘Haul Out the Holly’
“Ho-ho-ho” meets Hoa when Hallmark queen Lacey Chabert — in her 12th holiday film for the network! — ugly-sweaters up as Emily, a newly single editor hoping to spend the season alone at her parents’ Salt Lake City house. Before you can say “bah, humbug,” she’s roped into the cul-de-sac’s required festivities by the homeowner association’s Christmas-obsessed new president (Wes Brown). She even runs into some top-secret guests familiar to Hallmark fans. Here, Chabert tells all about Haul Out the Holly. Wes Brown’s Jared is so quirky. Not the typical hunk with a heart. Lacey Chabert: He did such a wonderful job…. I was surrounded by the funniest people. The biggest challenge on set was to not laugh. I love that Emily, at one point, actually watches Hallmark’s Christmas in Vienna, starring Brennan Elliott. We’ve done nine Hallmark movies together and he’s a dear friend,

‘Dead To Me’: How a Series About Grief Became My Comfort Show

‘Dead To Me’: How a Series About Grief Became My Comfort Show
“You don’t think every experience is the universe trying to teach us something?” a curious Judy Hale (Linda Cardellini) asks her best friend, cynical and straight-laced Jen Harding (Christina Applegate), in the final season of Netflix‘s Dead To Me. Jen’s response is one of reproach, but as I watched the episode, I found myself taken aback by the question. Before screeners hit my inbox over a month before the show’s public release, I had already been personally mourning the ending of this series the same way some people prepare to say goodbye to a person; despite working in the entertainment industry there have been very few shows that I’ve become attached to enough to watch every episode of, invest myself in, and feel connected to on more than just an enjoyment level. Dead To Me was one of those shows. After plowing through the first

‘Welcome to Chippendales’ and the Dorothy Stratten Problem

‘Welcome to Chippendales’ and the Dorothy Stratten Problem
Watching the premiere episode of Hulu’s limited series “Welcome to Chippendales” left me thinking about the 1997 comedy classic “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.” To look impressive to their former classmates, Romy (Mira Sorvino) tells them she invented Post-Its and that her bestie, Michele (Lisa Kudrow), thought to make them yellow.

In Hulu’s new limited series “Welcome to Chippendales,” Playboy Playmate Dorothy Stratten (Nicola Peltz) is presented as the person behind putting the Chippendales dancers in their soon-to-be-iconic cuffs-and-collars look. With 10 minutes left in the pilot, Stratten pitches an idea to Chippendales creator Steve Bannerjee (Kumail Nanjiani): “I know how much you admire Hugh Hefner…which got me thinking, what if Chippendales did a Playboy Club thing? Cuffs and collars, just like the Bunnies.”

It’s understandable why the series wants to show Stratten had autonomy, especially considering that her name is now synonymous with her murder.

Guardians of the Galaxy Star Talks Disney+ Holiday Special Reveal, How It Affects Vol. 3 Movie Sequel

Guardians of the Galaxy Star Talks Disney+ Holiday Special Reveal, How It Affects Vol. 3 Movie Sequel
The following contains spoilers from The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, a Marvel special presentation now streaming on Disney+.

Disney+’s The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was by-and-large and by design a candy-colored, 40-minute confection. A holiday folly if there ever was one. And yet it did deliver a medium-sized reveal that should carry over into at least one future MCU project.

Early on in the Marvel special presentation, when Mantis (played by Pom Klementieff) is lobbying to seek out a very special Christmas gift for a melancholy Quill (Chris Pratt), she privately and casually mentions to Drax (Dave Bautista) her “secret” that he and only he knows — that she and Peter share a father in Ego (played in Guardians Vol. 2 by Kurt Russell).

Recounting why she has withheld this information thus far, Mantis tells Drax, “Peter’s father… our father… killed his mother and tried to kill him. I don’t want him to be reminded of that every time he sees me.”

And yet at the end of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, after delivering Footloose star Kevin Bacon (if not Ren McCormack himself) to Quill, Mantis finally disclosed to her half-brother their connection.

“Your father, Peter, he might be… he might be… he is… my father, too,” she revealed. To which a happily surprised Quill said, “Mantis, that’s the greatest Christmas gift I could ever get!”

The Mantis-Quill connection is not entirely surprising, if at all. Fans have long speculated about their shared paternity — sparked in part by a blink-and-you-missed it image from Vol. 2, which depicted Ego’s myriad hook-ups, but also by a quickly deleted social media post by an actress who said she played “Mantis’ Mom” in a deleted scene from he first sequel.

And, indeed, Guardians Vol. 2 was where this sibling bond was originally to be revealed.

“I’ve know this little secret for years, because I knew about it when I was shooting Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” Mantis’ portrayer, Pom Klementieff, tells TVLine. “I think it was supposed to be in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and then [franchise writer-director] James Gunn decided to hold onto it and reveal it later.”

Klementieff went on to say, “It’s nice that it’s out there now” because “it creates more layers and a special and beautiful, bond between the two characters.”

As individuals, Mantis and Quill “can feel so isolated and gloomy,” Klementieff noted, but moving forward — Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to hit theaters May 5, 2023. — “this creates something pretty special between the two of them.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special also introduced to the MCU Cosmo the Spacedog (voiced by Borat Subsequent Moviefilm‘s Oscar-nominated Maria Bakalova)… revealed that Quill & Co. have been living in the Head of Knowhere… gifted Rocket with Bucky’s vibranium arm (A+ Infinity War callback!)… and unveiled the titular team’s new spaceship, which is named after (David) Bowie.

What did you think of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special?

Netflix Reveals First Look Images From Upcoming ‘Luther’ Film (Photos)
Idris Elba‘s Dci John Luther seems to be leaving the streets of London and heading to new territory judging by the first images from Netflix‘s upcoming Luther film. The forthcoming feature will see The Wire alum reprise the lead role he played across five seasons of the popular British crime thriller. As the new photos show, Elba is sporting his now signature tweed coat as he transforms into the ingenious but tormented detective. But while the dress sense might be the same, the location is not. In the first image, Elba is seen trudging across a snowy terrain, with mountains in the background, peeking over the horizon. Based on his pained look and gritted teeth, we can imagine the troubled police detective wishes he had brought a thicker jacket. Netflix The second photo sees the actor standing in what appears to be an underground railway tunnel. There are

‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ Is Utterly Unhinged — and Perfect

‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ Is Utterly Unhinged — and Perfect
There is a very real possibility of too much Marvel — but not today.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” debuts today on Disney+, where it makes a strong (and genuinely hysterical) case for expanding the MCU’s roster and limits. “Guardians” writer and director James Gunn wrote the special in a matter of hours while filming 2023’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” an enjoyable experience juxtaposed with the “torture” of his third MCU feature film.

The special swiftly and smartly sets up some plot threads and larger MCU nuggets — like the Guardians taking over Knowhere, their new talking dog (Maria Bakalova), and Rocket’s (Bradley Cooper) concerning Christmas present — but it’s also the rare piece of the Marvel story that requires almost no prior knowledge. All that matters is that these are aliens in space, and that Peter (Chris Pratt) was abducted from Earth at a young age.

We’re not the only ones, as TV Insider learned when we recently caught up with the stars of the movies on the red carpet for Hallmark Media’s star-studded kickoff of “Countdown to Christmas.” “I think we all know by now that Hallmark is about Christmas, it’s about connection,” Nadine Ellis (The Holiday Stocking) says in the video above. And, as Ashley Williams (Five More Minutes: Moments Like These) notes, it allowed people to find a connection, to feel “unified” during the pandemic, “a true time of isolation.” And these movies include stories that everyone can enjoy, as The Holiday Sitter‘s Jonathan Bennett and George Krissa share. “We love telling stories at Hallmark Channel, especially LGBTQ+ Christmas stories,
