In The Salerooms: Paintings of Dublin Horse Show, Donnybrook Fair, plus wool and silk rugs
De Vere’s De Vere’s Outstanding Irish Art Auction will be on view at 35 Kildare Street, Dublin, from Saturday November 19 to Tuesday November 22, when the auction will place online at 6pm. Highlights of the sale include Dublin Horse Show, 1928, a painting of the RDS Main Arena by Sir John Lavery (Lot 29: est. €100,000 to €150,000). It shows a water jump in the foreground with judges conferring, the Irish flag flying over the stand, and St Mary’s, Church of Ireland, Donnybrook, beyond. The painting was gifted by the artist’s wife, Lady Lavery, to their mutual friend, the playwright Lennox Robinson. An interesting painting by Nathaniel Grogan (1740-1807) shows the breaking up of an Irish fair (Lot 51: est. €20,000 to €30,000), with many drunken antics. See deveres.ie
