‘Black Adam’ Adds 18.5 Million to Box Office Ahead of ‘Black Panther’ Debut

‘Black Adam’ Adds 18.5 Million to Box Office Ahead of ‘Black Panther’ Debut
Warner Bros./DC’s “Black Adam” is holding on to the No. 1 spot at the box office for one more weekend before the release of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” on Friday, adding 18.5 million for a domestic total of 137 million after three weekends.

With hopes of a Chinese release diminishing, “Black Adam” continues to follow the box office path of last year’s Marvel film “Eternals,” as they have virtually identical domestic totals to this point. If that continues even as “Wakanda Forever” siphons off a huge portion of the film’s audience, “Black Adam” is headed for a final total of around 164 million domestic and 400 million worldwide.

While “Eternals” was disappointing for the MCU, the franchise’s established popularity likely means that the future of the Eternals in later films isn’t in question. But for DC, which is counting on new CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran to chart

‘Black Adam’ Tops In Third Weekend With 18.5 Million, ‘One Piece Film: Red’ Is Another Solid Anime Release With 9.5 Million Opening

‘Black Adam’ Tops In Third Weekend With 18.5 Million, ‘One Piece Film: Red’ Is Another Solid Anime Release With 9.5 Million Opening
This was another rough weekend at the box office with the combined gross of all films clocking in at 57.7 million, which is down 15 from last weekend and ranks as the year’s eighth lowest grossing. It isn’t all bad news, though. The weekend saw some great holds and a solid opening, and the post-summer box office slump will come to an end next weekend when Black Panther: Wakanda Forever delivers what may be the year’s biggest opening, leading what could potentially be the year’s highest grossing weekend.

Until then, Black Adam continues to lead the way. The Dceu film starring Dwayne Johnson brought in another 18.5 million in its third weekend, holding well as it dropped 33, much improved from last weekend’s 59 decline. With a cume of 137 million, it is ahead of comp Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, which dropped 44 in its third weekend with a gross

Quinta Brunson Downplays ‘Abbott Elementary’ Emmy Wins: ‘Perfection Is a Trap’

Quinta Brunson Downplays ‘Abbott Elementary’ Emmy Wins: ‘Perfection Is a Trap’
Quinta Brunson did the seemingly impossible with “Abbott Elementary,” creating a network sitcom that broke through with critics and television junkies in the era of Peak TV. Her boldness was vindicated this fall when she won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. The show also picked up two more wins in the Casting and Supporting Actress categories, proving that network shows still have a place in the awards race. But that doesn’t mean Brunson is ready to rest on her laurels.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brunson opened up about reaching the television stratosphere. She explained that, while she’s grateful for the show’s success, she isn’t going to let the adulation cloud her creative vision.

“On one hand, I’m super happy to represent very positive things to people,” Brunson said. “It makes me feel humbled and grateful. I try

The season finale of HBO’s House of the Dragon aired a couple of weeks back to much fanfare, as fans of the fantasy drama series were left to process the state of play in Westeros. With the series not returning till at least 2024, there would be ample time for fans to imagine Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen’s (Emma D’Arcy) response to the death of her son, Prince Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault) in the skies above Storm’s End. In the months that follow, there will likely be those also rewatching the series. In the finale, there is an actor switch you might have missed.

Quentin Tarantino Explains How Pedro Almodóvar’s Nc-17 Pic ‘Matador’ Influenced His Take On Cinematic Violence

Quentin Tarantino Explains How Pedro Almodóvar’s Nc-17 Pic ‘Matador’ Influenced His Take On Cinematic Violence
While director Quentin Tarantino (“Pulp Fiction”) is one feature film away from retirement—at least if his ten film proclamation stands— he still has many projects in the works. Tarantino’s aim when he retires is to focus on writing books and directing television projects —maybe he’ll finally make that “Bounty Law” spin-off from “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” he’s been threatening to make. He’s seemingly already moving into retirement mode by writing books such as a companion novel to his acclaimed “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” fleshing out those characters like Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth and the newly released nonfiction work, “Cinema Speculation.”

“Cinema Speculation” dropped earlier this month and focuses on vital American films from the 1970s, all of which he first saw as a young moviegoer at the time and left an impression on the future filmmaker.

Runaway Horror Hit Smile Has Now Passed 200 Million At The Worldwide Box Office

Runaway Horror Hit Smile Has Now Passed 200 Million At The Worldwide Box Office
Horror continues to show why it is the second most valuable genre at the box office behind the superhero industrial complex. This year's major horror success comes from Paramount with "Smile," which just crossed 200 million at the worldwide box office. The film, written and directed by Parker Finn, is now only 8 million behind the Chinese dramedy "Nice View" to become the highest grossing film of the year not based on any previous material. As "Nice View" was released back in February and barely made it out of China, "Smile" should be able to cross that film's 211 million haul.

Domestically, it almost has passed the 100 million mark, sitting at 99 million right now, so it should clear that in just a few days. Maybe it already will have when the weekend box office estimates turn to concrete numbers. "Smile" still has a bit of climb if it wants to pass Jordan Peele

James Gray Laments Brad Pitt’s “Stupid Voiceover” In ‘Ad Astra’ After Losing Final Cut To Disney

James Gray Laments Brad Pitt’s “Stupid Voiceover” In ‘Ad Astra’ After Losing Final Cut To Disney
Director James Gray gave us an ambitious sci-fi film with the Brad Pitt-led “Ad Astra, “making his off-world version of Joseph Conrad’s classic novel “Heart of Darkness.” The novel helped previously influence Francis Ford Coppola’s nightmare-esque vision of the Vietnam War film “Apocalypse Now,” and Gray seemed to borrow ideas from the book and the film.

Avatar 3 Could Be End if Avatar: The Way of Water Fails Says James Cameron

Avatar 3 Could Be End if Avatar: The Way of Water Fails Says James Cameron
Fans have waited patiently for over a decade for James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water. When Avatar came out in 2009 it proved to be a game changer not only for being the highest-grossing film at the time but the way it resonated with audiences was unprecedented. The science-fiction movie highlights themes like colonization, climate change, and our connection to the world around us. But the world has changed much since the first movie came out and developing a profitable franchise of this scope is quite imperative in the post-pandemic theatrical business. In a recent conversation with Slash Film, Cameron entertained the prospect of Avatar 2 failing to resonate with people anymore, revealing he’s willing to wrap up the franchise with the third part.

Heat Exemplifies Michael Mann's Theory On Genre Films As A Whole

Heat Exemplifies Michael Mann's Theory On Genre Films As A Whole
Michael Mann has been clear that 1995's "Heat" is a drama and not a crime movie. But even when the audience is in on the mystery from the very start, and knows what the criminals are planning, Mann is able to make the story compelling through the characters' cat-and-mouse investigation of each other.

As was one of Mann's goals for the film, "Heat" paints a full picture of the private lives of Al Pacino's Vicent Hanna and Robert De Niro's Neil McAuley. Consistent with the film's title, Hanna's escalating efforts to subdue McAuley drive the plot, with each constantly trying to outsmart the other. Only at great cost does Hanna finally catch McCauley. In Mann's other films, like "Thief" (1981), "Collateral" (2004), and "Miami Vice" (2006) — though he rotates between spending time with cops, criminals, or civilians — characters are similarly in regular search for insight into how their enemy operates.

Mann is

‘Black Adam,’ Again: Another Flat Box-Office Weekend Before ‘Wakanda Forever’

‘Black Adam,’ Again: Another Flat Box-Office Weekend Before ‘Wakanda Forever’
Black Adam” (Warner Bros. Discovery) took top spot this weekend for the third time with a gross of 18.5 million. That gets it to a domestic total of 137 million, a credible if not spectacular result for the DC entry with estimated pre-marketing budget of 200 million.

Groosses overall remained grim after nearly four months of famine that has seen total grosses fall under 100 million for 14 of the last 15 weekends. For context, in 2019, when ticket prices were around 80 percent of current levels, only four weekends fell short.

Give DC and Wbd distribution credit: “Black Adam” joins “The Batman,” “Godzilla Vs. Kong,” and “Wonder Woman 1984” as the fourth film to have three consecutive #1 weekends over the last 24 months. (Marvel has only three.) That’s partially due to the lack of competition (certainly true this week), but it also shows a finesse in picking dates.

The pre-weekend guess had “Adam” and “One Piece Film: Red,

Henry Cavill Never Gave Up Hope About Playing Superman Again, Even Though ‘There Are Things Out of Your Control’

Henry Cavill Never Gave Up Hope About Playing Superman Again, Even Though ‘There Are Things Out of Your Control’
One of the biggest surprises in “Black Adam” was Henry Cavill’s surprise cameo as Superman, setting up the return of one of the DC Universe’s most beloved heroes in subsequent Warner Bros. films. For Cavill, it was the latest step in a tumultuous journey that has included frequent executive turnover at Warner Bros. and a public debacle over the “Snyder Cut” of “Justice League.” But despite all of the chaos, he remains as enthusiastic as ever about continuing to suit up as Superman.

In a new interview with Deadline, Cavill opened up about putting on the cape again. He explained that his enthusiasm for the character never waned in the nine years since he first played Superman in “Man of Steel.” Despite not having control over the fate of the DC Universe, Cavill always hoped he would be able to reprise the role again someday.

“As an actor,
