Stonemason leading a tour

Group Visits

Plan the perfect visit for your group

We welcome groups to the Cathedral. Enjoy a private Highlights Tour, explore our medieval library, venture up the 269 steps to the top of the 15th century tower or visit the works yard of the talented stonemasons. Whatever you’re interested in, our Visitor Experience Team can build the perfect visit for your group

All group visitors receive a complimentary walk around guide and accompanying international translation (we currently have English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, Czech, Romanian, Danish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Russian translations available).

Guided tours are only available in English, but groups are welcome to bring along their own interpreter. Groups are recommended to bring one translator per 15 visitors.

The busy nature of the Cathedral means that it is essential for every group to book at least three weeks in advance to secure a slot on the diary and to allow for guides to be scheduled. All of our guides are volunteers, so it is better to have as much notice as possible.

Whilst we make every effort to welcome everyone to the Cathedral, we cannot always accommodate unbooked groups and may have to turn them away if they are likely to be disruptive to other events taking place.

Special Requests

Young people on scaffolding

Wherever possible we will accommodate special requests, including hen dos, birthday parties, marriage proposals or themed filming tours. If you would like your guided tour to focus on a particular area of interest, such as stained glass, get in touch with us to discuss and we will try our best to accommodate you.

Eat and drink

Between tours, indulge in one of our Afternoon Teas or a tasty lunch in the beautiful surroundings of the historic Parliament Suite where Henry VIII once stayed.

The Monk’s Kitchen Eatery offers a delicious range of hot and cold drinks, cakes, rolls, paninis, toasties, sandwiches and afternoon teas. Please let us know if you’d like us to cater for your group.
