BAFTA TV and Craft Awards Are Trying to Right the Balance for Female Directing Nominees
BAFTA has made key changes to its Television and TV Craft awards in an attempt to level the playing field for women in historically imbalanced categories such as directing.

For the 2023 awards, which are set to take place next spring, the Director categories of factual, fiction and multi-camera will see the top three male and top three female directors from the Round One membership vote automatically going through to jury consideration.

Banijay‘s planned acquisition of Sony Productions Film und Fernseh Produktions GmbH Germany (Sony Pictures Television Germany) from Sony Pictures is now complete. Following customary closing conditions, Banijay Germany has secured 100 stake in the company. The label, founded in 1995, will now operate as Noisy Pictures GmbH, with Astrid Quentell and Mirek Nitsch remaining in leadership positions.

Sony Pictures Television Germany’s successful shows include “Die Höhle der Löwen,” which has been on Vox since 2014; drama-comedy “Der Lehrer,” which has played nine seasons on Rtl and won numerous awards; and Zdf crime series “Heldt.”

‘Law & Order’ Crossover Premiere Event Beats Out Previous Season Ratings
NBC’s three-hour Law & Order crossover premiere was the most-watched and highest-rated program the night that it aired, according to Live + 3 data obtained by Variety. The special aired from 8-11 p.m. on September 22, and the special event marked the debut of Season 22 of Law & Order, Season 24 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Season 3 of Law & Order: Organized Crime. Law & Order, the first of the bunch, landed a 1.0 rating in the key adults 18-49 demographic and 6.8 million total viewers through three days of measurement — the best performance of a Law & Order episode since Season 21 debuted in February. This marked a 36 increase in rating and a 20 increase in total viewership. In the 9 p.m. timeslot, Live + 3 data for the Season 24 premiere of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit was even with the series’ four most recent episodes: an 18-49 rating of 1.4 with 7.7 total million viewers.

Anders Holm has joined the live-action (still untitled) Godzilla and the Titans series from Apple+, Variety reports. It’s not yet revealed who Holm will be portraying. According to the series logline, “Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the untitled series will explore one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.” Producers began filling out the show’s cast in June, with previously announced members including Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kiersey Clemons, Joe Tippett, Elisa Lasowski, Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, and Mari Yamamoto. October TV Premieres: 18 New Series to Look Out for This Month
Some months just have a clearer TV directive. In just a few short weeks, screens will be filled with snow and warm lighting and cocoa mugs. March/April are the months of Prestige TV Onslaught. July, as we all know, is Literary Adaptation Month.

So as the leaves begin to turn and fall really kicks into high gear, it’s not exactly kismet that brings so many spooky/horror-adjacent titles to the world of TV. That’s what October has long been made into, complete with all the eyeballs searching for scares that come along with it. Whether unsettling or kitschy or ironic, a good chunk of the new shows arriving over the coming weeks are designed to thrill and chill.

When Nexstar announced its completed acquisition of (75 percent of) The CW on Monday, it installed board member Dennis Miller, a venture capitalist with executive stints at Sony, Lionsgate, and Turner, as the broadcast network’s new president. Pedowitz, who was chairman and CEO of the youth-skewing broadcast network for the past 11 years is out; he’ll stay in the game via the revival of his former production company.
