If your spouse/SO asked you to read their favorite book, would you?

My wife and I are both avid readers, but we have vastly different tastes. However, I'm curious about what she's into (cuz I kinda have a crush on her) so I sometimes ask her for recommendations or read favorite books of hers.

It's occurred to me that I could ask her to read a favorite of mine, and I like that idea. I'd love to hear her point of view on what I'm into, even if she's not a fan.

Has anyone else had experience with this? Does this idea sound like too much of an imposition, asking someone to read a book outside of their comfort zone? Any interesting stories along these lines?

I am re-reading No Country for Old Men for like literally the 30th time and I still can't get over how great of a book it is.

Anyone who has seen the movie knows it is incredibly dark- No soundtrack during the entire movie, violence from the beginning to the end, and Lewelyn Moss does not exactly make out very well (trying to avoid spoilers). The novel delves into so much more detail, like who financed the drug deal gone wrong, what Chigurh does with the money when he recovers it, where Chigurh may be from, etc. It also explores Chigurh s mind and you get to see things from his point of view, like what he is thinking and why he has no problem being absolutely violent. I can't recommend this book enough. It is outstanding.

Finished Wheel of Time

I finished The Wheel of Time series this weekend on audiobook. It took me 5 years. I’ve been reading and listening to many other things, but this was such a constant in my life. I have so many thoughts and feelings swirling about the series, but a lot of my reaction has just been reflecting on how it was a part of my routine that saw me through so many big changes in my life over these years.

I loved the ending, and also didn’t want to let go of that world and its characters. Books roughly 5-7 were a bit of a slog, but then 14 books complete and I wanted more.

I also feel like, while the book itself is the prize, I’d like a ribbon for this accomplishment? :) it really does feel like I achieved something in completing it and I want to tell others and celebrate!

How do you guys read so fast? a book in 3 days feels impossible

i have watched many movies/shows/anime to the point where i want to spend time doing something else more useful, like reading. i still want to watch some entertainment but i read a few books and i liked them a lot. just dont feel like i have the time to read the good ones.

currently reading "Smarter, Better, Faster" its 1440 pages. ik i probably shouldn't count the pages bc then it would feel like a chore next trying to read "No more Mr nice guy" for self improvement. or "Unfuck your mind" i just want to improve myself and be smarter. i know "smarter" is pretty broaden. but its all i care about since i was a child, learning more about space, astronomy, and curious about almost everything. i been a lazy fuck for a while though. but i dont want to waste anymore time

but it also feels really overwhelming to know there are ton of books i haven't read yet/self improvement, all added together is probably why im lazy.
