Catherine Keener has joined the cast of the “Joker” sequel titled “Joker: Folie a Deux” in a secret role, according to an an individual with knowledge of the project.

The DC film about the Batman supervillain is slated for release on Oct. 4, 2024, and will again star Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role; Lady Gaga is co-starring as Harley Quinn, while Zazie Beetz is also expected to return to the cast as Sophie Dumond. Brendan Gleeson recently joined the ensemble, as well.

Production on the sequel is expected to begin this December. Todd Phillips is directing “Joker: Folie à Deux” after making the original “Joker” an R-rated box office smash. He also wrote the sequel alongside Scott Silver, who wrote the first “Joker.”

In 2019, “Joker” became one of the most successful comic book movies ever, both at the box office and on the awards circuit.

Veteran CNN anchor Bernard Shaw, who served as the cable news network’s first chief anchor when it launched in 1980, died Wednesday. He was 82.

Shaw, who retired in 2001, was with CNN for more than 20 years.

According to CNN, the cause of death was pneumonia unrelated to Covid-19.

“Bernie was a CNN original and was our Washington anchor when we launched on June 1, 1980,” Chris Licht, CNN Chairman and CEO, said in a statement on Thursday.

The organizers of the annual London TV Screenings announced Thursday that next year’s event – the third edition – will run from Feb. 27 to March 3. David A. Arnold, a comedian and showrunner known for his standup work and as creator and showrunner of Nickelodeon’s “That Girl Lay Lay,” died unexpectedly on Wednesday. He was 54.

A new Aew World Champion and new World Trios Champions will soon be crowned. Aew President Tony Khan revealed on Wednesday’s Aew: Dynamite that the aforementioned titles have been vacated following an alleged backstage brawl between World Champion Cm Punk and World Trios Champions the Elite (Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks).

Bob Iger shared a pessimistic outlook on the future of movies and traditional TV in an interview Wednesday at the Code Conference in Los Angeles.

The former Disney CEO was, however, particularly bullish on the growing number of streaming services embracing Madison Avenue, including Disney+, but predicted that not all of the current market entrants would survive in the long term.
