Health information standards
Published standards set requirements for the safe, secure and purposeful use and sharing of health information. Standards ensure the integrity of health information and that systems are interoperable. They are part of an ecosystem in which patients and consumers and their family/whānau have access to and control over their own information.
16 August 2021: SNOMED CT terminology service and New Zealand FHIR Registry
Two new tools for health software developers have been delivered under HISO’s interoperability roadmap and are now available online.
- The SNOMED CT terminology service is a real-time lookup service provided via a standard application programming interface (API) that makes it easy to add SNOMED CT functions to health software
- The New Zealand FHIR Registry is the home for the HL7® FHIR® profiles and implementation guides produced for national projects.

Health Information Standards Organisation (HISO)
HISO supports the development and adoption of health information standards in New Zealand.
All-of-Government data content requirements
All-of-government data content requirements for person name, date of birth and street address have been published on data.govt.nz.
HISO has been involved in the data content standardisation programme led by Stats NZ Tatauranga Aotearoa, and we are working to align our standards and systems to the new requirements.
