Nau mai, haere mai.

Welcome to Whaikaha - Ministry of Disabled People.

Shaping Aotearoa New Zealand's future in partnership with the disabled community and Māori.

Who we are

Have your say

One in four New Zealanders identifies as disabled. That's a lot of lives we can make a difference in.

We want the voices of our disabled community to have a true part in shaping the future. If you are a disabled person, family/whānau member, friend or supporter, have your say.

How to get involved

Creating an online home for disability information

Our website is a 'living project', designed and built in collaboration with members of our disabled community.

We're committed to continual improvement, and following accessibility standards and guidelines. We are working hard and acknowledge that best practice for accessibility means adhering to:

  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • New Zealand Government Web Standards

We will update our community on improvements and our accessibility standards as we go.

Our plan for this website

About us

More choices, more control over the life you want to lead. We're working with the disabled community to deliver change and give you more decision-making control around the support you receive.
