Accessing certain services in Aotearoa New Zealand

Although you can enter New Zealand using an overseas vaccination certificate, once you're in New Zealand you may need to have a 'My Vaccine Pass' to access certain services – such as travel and healthcare.

To get a My Vaccine Pass, you will need to apply to have your overseas vaccinations recognised in New Zealand by submitting evidence of them via the Overseas Vaccine Submission Form.

Approved vaccines for My Vaccine Pass

The vaccines accepted for My Vaccine Pass are:

  1. Pfizer/BioNTech
  2. Jcovden (previously Janssen)
  3. AstraZeneca (Oxford)
  4. AstraZeneca/Covishield (Serum Institute of India)
  5. Moderna
  6. Sinopharm (Beijing)
  7. Sinovac (CoronaVac)
  8. Covaxin (Bharat Biotech)
  9. Novavax (Nuvaxavoid)
  10. Covovax (Serum Institute of India).

To be eligible for My Vaccine Pass you must:

  • have completed a primary vaccination course (for most people this is two doses – this can include a combination, for example, one dose of Pfizer and one dose of Sinopharm)
  • have had a booster if you're aged 18 and over
  • be aged 12 or over (children under 12 do not need to show proof of vaccination)
  • submit evidence of your vaccinations so they are recognised in New Zealand – the process is detailed below.

If you’ve had a different vaccine

If you’ve had a COVID-19 vaccine not included in the 'approved list for My Vaccine Pass', but is one of the vaccine types listed below that we can accept evidence of, you will need to:

  1. apply to have your vaccinations recognised by providing evidence, and
  2. have another dose of Pfizer, AstraZeneca (Oxford/Vaxzevria or Covishield), Janssen, or Moderna to complete your primary course
  3. have any of the approved vaccines for My Vaccine Pass as a booster.

You can have any doses needed before you come to New Zealand, or you can have Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccinations after you have arrived. In New Zealand, all COVID-19 vaccinations are free – you will not need to pay for this extra dose.

You can book an additional dose through Book My Vaccine.

If you intend to have COVID-19 vaccinations when you arrive in New Zealand, you may be eligible for a 30-day temporary My Vaccine Pass which allows time to get any COVID-19 vaccinations you need. You will be informed whether you can have a 30-day temporary My Vaccine Pass once you’ve completed the Overseas Vaccine Submission Form.
