“True Detective” Season 4 has officially been greenlit at HBO, with Kali Reis now set to star opposite previously announced lead Jodie Foster.

The new season of the anthology drama was first reported as being in the works at the premium cabler in March. Titled “True Detective: Night Country,” the season begins when the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, and the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. Mary Mara, an actress known for roles in ER, Criminal Minds, Ray Donovan and Law & Order, has died. She was 61.

In a report published Monday by the New York State Police, officials confirmed that Mara’s body was discovered in the St. Lawrence River in Cape Vincent, N.Y. on the morning of June 26. The preliminary investigation suggests Mara drowned while swimming.

According to the report, there were no signs of foul play. Mara was transported to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office where an official cause of death will be determined by an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing.

Mara starred in a myriad of television and film projects, making her debut in the 1989 television movie, The Preppie Murder. Mara’s television credits include roles on E.R., Law & Order, Ray Donovan, Nash Bridges, Lost, Shameless, Nip/Tuck, The Practice, Gideon’s Crossing,

“The Old Man” has been renewed for Season 2 at FX.

The drama series debuted on FX on June 16. The first season will consist of seven episodes total with the fourth set to air on June 30 before becoming available to stream on Hulu.

Based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Perry, centers on Dan Chase (Jeff Bridges), who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since. When an assassin arrives and tries to take Chase out, the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past.

The

NBC is the fourth broadcast network (following Fox, ABC and CBS) to unveil its fall rollout plan, setting premiere dates for more than a dozen new and returning series.

As previously announced, La Brea is staying put in the Tuesday time slot that served its hit freshman run well, while the #OneChicago and Law & Order franchises will similarly and respectively call Wednesday and Thursday home.

Michaela Coel, John Turturro, and Paul Dano are set to star in the “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” series at Amazon, Variety has learned exclusively.

The trio join previously announced series leads Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, who will star in the title roles. Exact character details for the other three actors are being kept under wraps. Showtime’s comedy pilot based on the 1999 film “The Wood” has set its main cast, Variety has learned exclusively.

Vince Staples, Xavier Mills, Karen Obilom, Melvin Gregg, and Essence Renae will star in the pilot, with Richard T. Jones and Tamala Jones set to reprise their roles as Slim and Tanya respectively from the film.

Rick Famuyiwa, who wrote and directed the film, will direct and executive produce the pilot. It was ordered at Showtime in August 2021. The show is described as an honest look at friendship and dating from the perspective of three young Black males born and raised in the gentrifying L.

Peacock series “The Resort” follows present-day couple Noah (William Jackson Harper) and Emma (Cristin Milioti), who travel to a luxury Yucatan resort to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. Ever since news broke that Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul will reprise their roles as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman on the final season of “Better Call Saul,” fans have been cooking up theories as to how they’ll return. Will Walt and Jesse show up as their pre-“Breaking Bad” selves in the “Better Call Saul” timeline? Or will it be a flashback to their “Breaking Bad” days working with Bob Odenkirk’s Saul Goodman?

Peacock announced on Wednesday the premiere dates for its scripted originals for the rest of the year, including Matthew Fox’s “Last Light,” “Vampire Academy,” the “Pitch Perfect” spinoff series “Bumper in Berlin” and the TV adaptation of “The Best Man.”

Original series set to premiere in July (and have been previously announced) include six-part drama thriller “Trigger Point” from Jed Mercurio’s Htm Television on July 8, starring Vicky McClure and Adrian Lester; “Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem,” a spin-off of the legendary NBC soap that stars cast members Kristian Alfonso, Peter Reckell and Eileen Davidson on July 11; and

“One could say the stakes have never been higher — and one will. The stakes have never been higher!” Ashlyn squeals in the just-released trailer for Season 3 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Netflix is celebrating the last two episodes of “Stranger Things 4” with a live, virtual watch party late Thursday night — letting fans tune in for a cast Q&a before the Volume 2 eps go live July 1.

For the virtual watch party, Netflix has tapped Scener, a co-viewing platform that lets people watch titles on different streaming services together online. The event is free to access, but you must be a current Netflix subscriber to watch the premiere.

Ahead of the two “Stranger Things 4” Volume 2 epsiodes’ premiere at 3 a.m. Et Friday on Netflix, the Scener watch party will host a Q&a starting at 2:15 a.
