Professor Lisa A. Mazzie, J.D., (she/her) has been a faculty member at Marquette University Law School since 2004. Professor Mazzie teaches legal analysis and writing, appellate advocacy, writing for law practice, and gender and the law. She is the co-director of Marquette's Moot Court Program and she also serves as the faculty advisor for the National Appellate Advocacy Competition, National Moot Court Competition, and the Emory Civil Rights and Liberties Competition moot court teams. Moreover, she is the faculty advisor for the Association of Women Lawyers (AWL), the American Constitution Society for Law and Public Policy (ACS), and the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Society for Public Engagement & Education. She is also a certified Title IX investigator for the University. She’s the only Marquette Law faculty member to be inducted into Marquette’s Pro Bono Honor Society; since 2017, she has performed nearly 200 hours of pro bono legal work for the law school’s Domestic Violence Injunction Project (with Sojourner Family Peace Center and Quarles & Brady), including representing petitioners in court, and with the Milwaukee Justice Center Forms Clinic, assisting clients with completing forms for family law matters.

Professor Mazzie is currently working on a textbook with Professor Meredith Stange (NIU) titled Writing for Law Practice: What They Didn't Teach You First Year.

Prior to joining the faculty full-time in 2004, Professor Mazzie was a law clerk to the Honorable Patience Drake Roggensack at the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Before that, Professor Mazzie worked as an attorney in private practice in Madison, and she also spent one year working as an investigator for the Office of Lawyer Regulation. Professor Mazzie received her BA, with honors, from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. She received her JD, cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, where she was also elected to Order of the Coif, and was a staff member and then Symposium Editor of the Wisconsin Law Review.

Professor Mazzie is ABD for her PhD at Marquette University in Educational Policy and Leadership, with a specialization in Sociology. 

Professor Mazzie is an election observer and a member of the League of Women Voters. In her free time, Professor Mazzie enjoys hot yoga, working out at her local fitness center, reading, and spending time with her recuse puppy named Kate and a rescue cat named Ruth.
