Copyright Reminder

The rapid move to online teaching in response to COVID-19 is raising both copyright and privacy questions.  Please review this FAQ for answers to some of the most common questions.

Copyright and intellectual property issues are a part of the fabric of research and scholarly communications, and thus all Stanford faculty, students and staff need a working understanding of copyright law as it impacts their daily lives.  The Copyright Reminder highlights common campus copyright concerns and outlines fundamental elements of US copyright law to help the Stanford community navigate these important issues.

The Copyright Reminder has three sections:

  • Common situations looks at copyright issues arising in a variety of common campus situations, and recommends appropriate actions
  • Recommended practices offers more general advice on best practices when dealing with copyright concerns
  • Copyright law overview provides more specific information on the law related to copyright

Members of the Stanford community who need further copyright information should feel free to contact Yi-An Chen in the Office of the General Counsel.
