Address Confidentiality Program - Southeast Region Resources

A Safe Place – Nantucket

Domestic Violence Community Based Services
Our advocates are available day and night to answer calls to our 24-hour hotline, respond in person to assist with restraining orders in court or at the police station, and provide support as requested in crises at the Cottage Hospital. Depending on the needs of the client, our services range from a listening ear to basic needs items such as food and clothing. In extremely high risk situations, we make available emergency “safe home” while plans are being made to leave the island. Individual and group counseling are important components of this program.

Sexual Assault Prevention & Survivor Services
Trained Rape Crisis Counselors (RCC) are available day and night to provide information, support and options via our 24-hour hotline whether the assault occurred recently or long ago. For those who take the courageous step of undergoing a forensic evidence collection exam, “rape kit”, an RCC will provide in-person support and advocacy at the hospital. In the aftermath, our caring and knowledgeable staff will provide on-going support and counseling to the survivor and/or their friends and family. Individual and group counseling are available. Should the survivor wish to press civil or criminal charges, our staff will continue to provide help and support every step of the way.

Supervised Visitation Center
The overarching goal of our Visitation Program is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for children to maintain a relationship with both parents while attempting to insulate them from the conflict between parents.
Supervised Visits allow non-custodial parents to visit and play with their child(ren) in our comfortable living room. The entire visit is monitored by trained staff and on-site security.

Neutral Exchange allows for a smooth transition between parents when a restraining order or other reason prevents direct exchange of children.

Child Witness to Violence Program
The immediate and long term effects of witnessing violence in the home are well documented. Through our Child Witness to Violence Program, we work to mitigate the damage by providing therapeutic support to children and their non-offending family member(s) which consists of a combination of individual and family sessions, depending on the age of the child. Education and parenting support are important components of this program which also includes periodic support groups for youth and parents.

Prevention, Education and Outreach
FCR is committed to not just addressing domestic violence and trauma, but preventing them. We aim to do so through outreach and educational initiatives for youth and adults, with an emphasis on promoting healthy relationships and violence prevention. Additionally, FCR staff train other providers and community members about recognizing and responding to the needs of survivors, promoting healthy relationships in youth, and the impact of secondary trauma on providers and first responders.

Batterers' Intervention Program
Dept. of Public Health guidelines dictate batterers attend an intervention program for at least 80-hours. High Point offers two-hour groups that meet weekly for 40 consecutive weeks. The program is for both male and female perpetrators.

Court Advocacy (SAFEPLAN)
Navigating through the courts is an often bewildering process. Advocates work out of Plymouth District, Plymouth Probate, Wareham District, and Hingham District Courts. They help clients with the 209A process, in addition to the Harassment Prevention Order (258E), passed last year in Massachusetts, which provides victims relief against stalking, sexual assault, and criminal harassment. The Abuse Prevention Law (209A) is for domestic violence victims. One of the requirements to filing is a relationship must exist between family or household members. A victim of sexual assault by someone with whom no previous relationship exists can seek a 258E harassment order.

Education & Trainings
Intervention and prevention education and workshops are provided to all interested community groups (i.e. civic, religious, business, and school). We also bring the White Ribbon Campaign into area schools. The White Ribbon Campaign is an initiative that encourages men to become outspoken advocates against violence against women. As dating violence is a very real issue teens are grappling with, the White Ribbon Campaign is an effective tool in educating young people about dating and domestic violence

Community Partners
The South Shore Women's Resource Center works with our community partners to educate people about domestic violence, in addition to preventing its occurrence in the first place. Partners include local police departments, area schools, local Council on Aging centers, the Department of Children & Families, Department of Transitional Assistance, Plymouth County DA's Office, Plymouth County Sheriff's Department, Plymouth County Risk Assessment Team, the United Way of Greater Plymouth County, faith-based entities, and other interested groups.
