California Privacy Notice

For our California users:

This section only applies to California residents. Please read our Privacy Policy for further information on how we handle your information.

We are providing California residents additional information about how we handle personal information and your privacy rights and choices, as required by the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (“CCPA”).

How we collect, use, and share personal information

Based on our understanding of the term "sell" under the CCPA, we do not "sell" your personal information. We work with advertising providers to deliver tailored advertising as described in our Privacy Policy. For information on how you can limit online tracking, please see our Online Tracking Choices.

We recommend reviewing our full Privacy Policy to learn about the information we collect and how we use and share information. The list below provides highlights about how we currently (and have over the past twelve months) collect, use, and share personal information. This list might not cover information you volunteer to us, like in an email or in response to a survey.

    • The information that we collect, use, and disclose for business and commercial purposes includes the following categories of personal information:
    • Contact information and identifiers that relate to you and your device
    • Your payment information, if applicable, and commercial information about the products and services you receive from us and any transactions you conduct
    • Internet and network information, including information about your electronic activity
    • Geolocation data
    • Professional information
    • Inferences about you based on any of the above information
  • We may receive information from you, your device, or third-party providers, and we use this information for the business and commercial purposes described in our Privacy Policy.
  • Depending on the circumstances, we may share any of the above categories of information we collect among our affiliates and with third parties, such as service providers, payment processors, event sponsors, third parties as part of a corporate transaction, law enforcement or other third parties in connection with a legal request, or to protect our users and services. As described in our Cookie Policy, Axios permits third parties such as analytics and advertising providers to collect information about your use of our websites and services and discloses such information to third parties for business purposes, including to provide advertising on our services and elsewhere. We also may share your information with your consent or at your direction.

Your California privacy rights

California residents have the following rights.

  • Information. You can request information about how we have collected, used and shared personal information during the past 12 months.
  • Access. You can request a copy of the personal information that we have collected about you in the past 12 months.
  • Deletion. You can ask us to delete the personal information that we maintain about you.

These rights are not absolute. For example, the CCPA prevents us from providing certain sensitive information in response to an access request. We’ll let you know if we deny your request and will not penalize you for making a request.

How to submit a request

  • Requests. To request access to or deletion of your personal information, or to learn more about how we collect, use and share personal information, email [email protected].
  • Identity verification. We'll need to confirm your identity and California residency to fully respond to your request.
  • Authorized agents. California residents can empower an “authorized agent” to submit requests on their behalf. We require any authorized agent to provide written authorization confirming their authority.

Online tracking choices

Like many companies online, Axios uses services provided by third parties that help deliver targeted ads to you. Your choices for opting out of these companies' use of your personal information for interest-based advertising include:

Blocking cookies in your browser. Most browsers let you remove or reject cookies, including cookies used for interest-based advertising. To do this, follow the instructions in your browser settings. Many browsers accept cookies by default until you change your settings. Learn more about cookies here.

Blocking advertising ID use in your mobile settings. Your mobile device settings may provide functionality to limit use of the advertising ID associated with your mobile device for interest-based advertising purposes.

Using privacy plug-ins or browsers. You also may use a browser with privacy features, like Brave, or install browser plugins like Privacy Badger, Ghostery or uBlock Origin.  These may offer tools to block or limit third-party cookies/trackers.

Platform opt-outs. The following advertising platforms offer opt-out features that let you opt-out of certain uses of your information for interest-based advertising:

Advertising industry opt-out tools. You can also use these opt-out options to limit use of your interest-based advertising by participating companies:

Since many of these opt-out tools are specific to a device or browser, you will need to opt out on every browser and device that you use. For more information about how we handle personal information, see our Privacy Policy.
