MAJOR DISSAPPOINTMENT!

As an avid reader of the "Cross Series" and fan of James Patterson, this movie was a major let down. In none of the books was Alex Cross ever in Detroit. And I have no clue who this "Tommy" person is. Sampson or "Man Mountain" from the first book was Cross's best friend raised by Nanna Mama. Not some 5'9 pasty faced white guy who not once in the movie refers to Cross as "Sugar." Maria wasn't murdered in a restaurant, but in front of her DC inner city social workers office. Alex was late to pick her up. There was no calling 911, Alex picked her up and RAN with her to ST. Anthony's hospital, where she died in his arms moments before he slammed through the ER doors. And the bad guy, this Picasso, in the book was simply known as the "Butcher", who did not leave charcoal pictures. the brutal mutilation of his victims was the only "art work" he needed. The introduction of this character in a back room MMA fight was such a diversion from Patterson's work. In the book, the "Butcher" and "Jimmy Hats" make their entrance into Cross's world in a DC mob boss's restaurant. Also, Cross ALWAYS drives a Porsche 911 and Maria drives a run-down Toyota. The entire movie from beginning to where I finally stopped watching was so far outside the book, it was painful. Tyler Perry did his best to carry this, but so much was against him, even his talent could not make the movie a hit. It boggles my mind how the writers, producers, studio managers and directors could screw up such a brilliant work. Patterson gave them a movie on a platter and they chewed it up, spit it out and came up with this waste of cinematic energy. How Patterson could stand by and watch his work go up in flames this way is beyond me. The Alex Cross books could be huge at the box office. Bring back Morgan Freeman, (or if he doesn't want to do it, Tyler Perry could be the next best thing). Bring back Sampson, Bring back 5th street and Washington, DC. And read the darn books! Get Nanna Mama's character right. I've never made a movie in my life, but even I could do better than this garbage. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. And before you even think about watching an "Alex Cross" movie, READ THE BOOKS! Hollywood owes James Patterson and the actors and the viewing public a serious apology.

Villains Alex Cross faces off against all seem alike

Alex Cross was one of the main characters created by crime writer James Patterson. Previously he’d appeared in films like Kiss the Girls and Along Came the Spider with Morgan Freeman playing the part. This time Tyler Perry took a crack at the role. As usual he was a criminal psychologist and police officer this time in Detroit. Just as predictable he was up against a sociopath called Picasso (Matthew Fox) who was like a super mercenary for hire.

Here’s how the bad guys are similar in all the Patterson movies. The characters are criminal geniuses and they call Cross to taunt him and test their wills against each other. The twist in this film is that Cross has a personal loss which makes him break the law to get revenge.

This is the third James Patterson film adaptation that I’ve seen. It’s not the worse one, but it’s not the best either putting it right in the middle.

Matthew Fox is OUTSTANDING.

I've not read any of the books so had no expectations. I have seen other somewhat related films, and Freeman is a tough act to follow, I don't care who you are. The 5th star is totally for Fox's character, who played his part very well and really made this movie, imo. This was a decent movie, standard crime/action film, although I caught some errors - no reflection on the cast. Some ridiculous scenes, but the standard crime thriller movie scenes - nothing worse than usual (good guys totally breaking the law with no repercussions whatsoever; guys being beaten and badly injured but still able to accomplish great feats of strength; one guy successfully beats a legit fighter but then loses a fight to the 'guy next door'; etc.). Tyler Perry is very talented, and I won't say anything bad about him, but the director could've done a much better job. That's all I'm gonna say about that.

I didn't think this would be good viewing, so I rented it first. Again, I liked it. So, I bought it. Tyler Perry's acting came as quite a surprise when compared to his well-known Madea characterization. Don't get me wrong, I do like most of the Madea movies, but this was a pleasant surprise. Didn't know Perry's acting ability was this versatile. You really should see it.

It will ruin future Alex Cross novels for you

This was nothing like the books! Very disappointing to say the least. When I read the books I pictured someone like Shemar Moore as Alex Cross and maybe someone like LL Cool J for Sampson (only perhaps a better actor). I decided to give it a try, despite them casting Tyler Perry. I had no idea they would change his partner to a wimpy white man.
His best friend is supposed to be the strong, silent type. Nana Mama was supposed to be a loveable, feisty character, not a grumpy, old woman. They changed Alex to more of a vigilante than someone who tries to do the right thing. He was never a bad cop who would steal evidence, or plant evidence. Even the Butcher didn't stay true to his character. He wasn't a serial rapist, didn't slash up his victims faces, etc. They got everyone's character wrong. They seemed to take little bits and pieces of several books, getting the timeline of events all disjointed. I wish I could give this one an upside down dog.

Who's the real ...Alex Cross

I had plans on renting this film.. then it came up free on Prime. Second ..Tyler Perry is a good actor and director to boot. I will always associate the character .."Alex Cross" with ..Morgan Freeman and luckily for Mr. Freeman they found someone gifted enough ..to pick up from where he left off . I will say this that the city of Detroit isn't what it use to be .."The Motor city" and the home original home of "Motown" records.. The entire cast worked very well together and I hope that the next guy who is cast as "Alex Cross" will continue to do the character justice ? Veterans like C. Tyson who plays Tyler Perry's mother is the great AA actress of her generation...she was the last wife of Jazz great Miles Davis.. She also works well with Mr.Perry in his own productions... I recommend this feature..

I ordered two movies on March 30th, 2020. The due date was April the 14th- 29th. When we didn't get them after the first of May, I contacted the seller. I was told twice that I needed to wait another 10 days. So I've been waiting. They came in yesterday, and guess what, they won't play on any of my machines. I am very upset about this. And I want 2 new movies that I can watch sent pronto, asap. I mean its been 3 months, and now that they are here, I can't even watch them
