Bright Spots

The world is hard right now, but there's still good news out there. People helping each other, companies changing missions to serve the public need and more. We're all in this together.

  1. Tampa Bay Times book critic Colette Bancroft has won the first Roy Peter Clark Literary Award.
  2. Henry Winkler will be at Clearwater's Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theater on April 2 sharing anecdotes and lessons from his four-decade career.
  3. This is the 30th year United Way has organized its Week of Caring.
  4. Fans wore fancy Kentucky Derby-style hats at the 2021 Valspar Championship. It's part of the growing trend of adding a party atmosphere to PGA tournaments like this one, which expects 100,000 people over four days March 17-20.
  5. People visit Honeymoon Island State Park in Dunedin in 2021, which last year had a $2 million beach renourishment project.
  6. The Disney hit "Moana" will be shown in sing-along form on April 3 as part of Tampa Theatre's family movie series.
  7. Spring break was busy in 2021, as seen along Clearwater Beach in March of last year. Expect it to be even harder to find a spot in the sand when all of Tampa Bay's school systems and USF have the same spring break March 14-18.
  8. This year's Busch Gardens Food & Wine Festival will feature items such as a Braised Rib Slider, left, served on a jalapeno cheddar corn muffin, and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos elote street corn. The festival runs weekends March 11-May 22.
  9. Hundreds of local Ukrainians and their supporters gathered in solidarity with those fighting the Russian invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 26 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
