Miami Neighborhood Map: Little Haiti & Little River

As self-championed supporters of culture, we like to make sure that Miami is being represented in as well-rounded a way as possible. That means, spotlighting the amazing people and places that make this city so special. And we’re talking about the real city, especially the neighborhoods whose identity are built upon the foundation of the world’s most vibrant cultures. Like Little Haiti and its surrounding communities. Calling Miami’s northern core home, Little Haiti has born much of the brunt behind Miami’s current development boom. But amidst all that, its rooted charm shines brighter than ever.

Back before borders and labels ruled the world–or just Miami–the areas of Little Haiti and Little River had been habituated and established as far back as the 1800s. It has had many a name, like Lemon City and Edison, and has been home to a tight-knit community of industrials with a creative vision, merchants, and a strong collection of local businesses that have survived the surrounding sprawl. Regardless of which corner you identity most with, it’s impossible not to fall under the area’s spell. After one afternoon of deep exploration, you’ll find yourself coming back for more…and uncovering its complex layers with each visit.

Art & Culture

Little Haiti Cultural Center – The brightly-colored marketplace and performance space standing tall at the heart of the Little Haiti neighborhood is a hotspot for residents, concerts, and community gatherings.

EXILE Books – EXILE Books is an experimental artist’s bookstore and community project space in Little Haiti which is dedicated to promoting print culture in Miami.

Ace Prop House + Studios – Primarily a Miami prop shop rental company combined with a Miami photo studio location rental space catering to film, photo shoots, fashion shoots and music video locations. This Miami institution in the fashion world is opening it’s doors to the public as an event venue.

Laundromat Art Space – The Laundromat Art Space is an Artist Run Collective located in the heart of Miami’s Little Haiti Neighborhood as a platform for Miami’s eclectic art community.

Nina Johnson – Formerly Gallery Diet. Nina Johnson is a contemporary art gallery in Miami that has produced exhibitions by emerging and established artists since 2007.

&Gallery – From the beginning, &gallery’s primary mission has been to support South Florida artists. The practice began as an art and exhibition space for contemporary art and design in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood, which has since expanded into much more.

Simply Good – Loading spaces transformed into underground gathering places for things like the Little River Vinyl Club, DJ classes, and other creative co-working pop-ups.

YO Miami – Founded in April 2011, what began as a passion for art, music and our 305 culture has evolved into a comprehensive network of artists, musicians, DJs, comedians, craft breweries, chefs and more.

Churchill’s Pub – Since 1979, Churchills has grown to become a staple of the Miami Music Scene. Often referred to as the “CBGB of the South,” Churchill’s holds the world record for most acts within a single venue throughout the world.

Villain Theater – Villain Theater is a theater company bringing improv comedy, standup comedy, sketch comedy, and drag performances to Miami.

Mindy Solomon Gallery – Mindy Solomon Gallery specializes in contemporary emerging and mid-career artists and art advisory services. The gallery represents artists working in painting, sculpture, photography, and video in both narrative and non-objective styles.

Emerson Dorsch – Emerson Dorsch is a contemporary art gallery that represents a core group of South Florida artists as well as emerging and mid-career visiting artists.

N’Namdi Contemporary Fine Art – N’Namdi Contemporary Miami founded by Jumaane N’Namdi, focuses on building private and corporate collections while being a cultural destination for all generations. Exhibiting established, mid-career and emerging artist this fusion of work allows the gallery to bring a bold and sophisticated vibe to Miami.

Miami Art Society – A Contemporary Art Gallery and Event Space in Little Haiti exhibiting local artists.

Archive 79 – With several talented Artists curating custom art work you are sure to find something you will fall in love with. They have pieces of all shapes and sizes.

Primary – A context and research driven curatorial collective with a focus on public arts, Primary has featured some of the world’s and Miami’s leading artists in many successful campaigns and exhibits.

Things to Do

Libreri Mapou – Libreri Mapou is a bookstore, library, and cultural center all in one and by far the best place to find an entire collection of books in Creole, French and English published mostly by Haitians.

MADE at The Citadel – A funky and eclectic co-working space in Little River housing some of Miami’s most creative entrepreneurs.

Santuario Miami – The neighborhood yoga studio, Santuario was founded by a group of yogis, travelers, surfers, martial artists, skaters, and mindful gallivanters who are dedicated to sharing the stoke of life.

Manatees in the Canal on 62nd – Just take a pause and say hello.

Earth n Us Farm – The Earth n Us Farm is a learning space for kids and adults. The Farm seeks to teach people how to respect and care for the Earth, animals and each other. And hopefully, the Farm serves as a place for people to learn how to peacefully co-exist.

Little Haiti Community Garden – “If you’re on the prowl for an urban oasis, check out the Little Haiti Community Garden. Since 2009, the farm has provided hands-on agricultural and nutritional education and fresh food for Miamians. It’s also a great place to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty while doing a little volunteering.” – The New Tropic.

Saint Mary’s Cathedral – Opened in 1957, Over the years Saint Mary Cathedral Church has been a “beacon of light and a harbor of hope” to the community of South Florida.

Apiary Makerspace – A makerspace in Little River Miami that provides workshop spaces and tools to artisans across various disciplines including ceramics, woodworking, metalworking, agriculture, textiles, architecture, print making, sculpting, circuitry, fabrication, education and design.

The Little Farm House – Built in the 1920’s, located on a bend of the Little River section of the Miami River on the edge of Little Haiti, is an eclectic one-acre oasis consisting of a 1,200 square foot farm house, two story boathouse and six colorful cottages featuring rustic furnishings – all made out of Dade County pine and rescued from a trailer park down the road.

Sweat Records – Miami’s premier indie music store, coffee shop, and event space. For 15 years, Sweat Records has been a pillar for the music community in more ways that selling tunes.

Little Haiti Soccer Park – The recently refurbished soccer park is a shining green gem and a frequented spot for the active lifestyle-inclined in the area.

Inhale Miami – A new kind of wellness center, with experienced hollistic healthcare providers that are here to support your lifestyle needs.

Ebb & Flow – A neighborhood shopping destination where progressive businesses and curious locals come together to create memorable experiences in a welcoming and inspiring space.

Sherwood Forest Park – Park offering a wooded nature trail as well as picnic pavilions, athletic courts & a playground.

Center for Subtropical Affairs – The Center for Subtropical Affairs is an ecological learning center in Little River that provides jobs and career training in sustainable development to the community.

Studio Madreselva – A small studio/shop in Little River called Studio Madreselva, which means “Mother Jungle”. Home of artist, Hillary Bailey who specializes in different jobs ranging from interior plant design for restaurants and private homes to small scale landscaping and event design.

Rose Coloured – A boutique floral design studio based in Miami, Florida specializing in organic and lushly textured arrangements for events and the everyday. With a truly Fine Art approach to floral design, ROSE COLOURED emphasizes the use of seasonal flora, herbs and foliage to create our signature bespoke pieces.

Nomad Tribe – A conscious clothing brand committed to designing a more sustainable future. They travel the world in search of authentic people and traditions and use that as inspiration to create more ethical options for our consumer and are the minds behind PIVOT Market inside The Citadel.

Boia De – The newest addition to the crowned bunch is Boia De, a Tuscan-inspired outpost in Little Haiti by the same team behind the former Miami Design District taco pop-up, La Pollita.

Fiorito – From the hand-built wooden exterior to the intimate bistro digs inside, it’s easily one of the best Argentinian spots in the city. Their food is always on point: we suggest the corn empanadas, the steak salad, and their perfect hand-cut french fries.

La Piazzetta – A family-owned restaurant from Naples, Italy with fresh and authentic ingredients brought in and cooked daily.

Naomi’s Garden Restaurant – Casual destination in an oasis, tropical environment, for typical Caribbean dishes including BBQ, to eat inside or on the terrace.

Piman Bouk Haitian Restaurant – Fish platters, meat stews & other Haitian dishes offered in an unpretentious environment where the true Little Haiti locals go.

Clive’s Cafe – Best little, Jamaican restaurant in Miami Little Haiti. They serve curry goat rice and beans. Their jerk Chicken, fried chicken are some of the food made with love.

Adelita’s Cafe – If you drive fast on NE 2nd Ave., you might miss this little Honduran gem that serves delicious eats in a low-key, grandma’s kitchen environment.

Cindy Lou’s Cookies – Cindy Lou’s Cookies is a classic All-American Cookie Shop specializing in big, old fashioned seriously delicious cookies, that are intended to warm the heart.

Veni Vidi Vici – Veni Vidi Vici is an Italian Social Club where you meet new people and make new friendships in a charming, bistro-lit atmosphere.

Panther Coffee – The local coffee roaster that took the local coffee shop culture by storm and transformed our coffee scene forever.

Eat Here Now – A weekly pop-up of some of Miami’s most beloved eateries including Proper Sausage, USBS burgers, and so much more.

Sullivan Street Bakery – The first outpost of the lauded NYC bakery outside of The Big Apple, we’re patiently awaiting the opening of a cafe soon.

Sixty10 Rotisserie – Natural Rotisserie Chicken in Little Haiti. A very laid back take out, their chicken is natural and rub with a secret recipe from Portugal.

House of Food Porn – In 2016, the House of Food Porn was founded in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood. There you’ll find Chef Franco Antonio creating his unique Shushi magic with his “Amicasa” style reservation-only tasting experiences.

Fire Kitchen & Bar – FIRE, the little sibling of Key Biscayne’s Artisan Kitchen and Bar, is a new and refreshing wood fired grill concept featuring a seafood and veggie centric menu anchored to our environment by the extensive use of peppers, citrus and tropical fruits.
