Nothing downgrades a car’s appearance quite like scratched, faded, or worn paint. However, what might look like irreversible damage can often be remedied, or at least improved, by a high-quality scratch remover.
Numerous products are designed to remove scratches and improve the appearance of scratched paint, and many approaches exist to answer this age-old automotive dilemma. But buyer beware: Your results will vary dramatically, primarily based on the depth of the scratch. Minor scratches often penetrate just the clear coat, which is the final or topcoat of most automotive finishes. Severe or deep scratches can continue below the clear coat to the actual paint or “color” coat, some going deep enough to damage the base or primer coat. While light surface scratches are often repairable, if you can feel a significant gouge area with your fingernail, chances are removing the blemish will require the assistance of a professional body shop or experienced detailer.
Qualifier: Since there is no single “correct” way or methodology to reduce the appearance of scratches, our selections include all-in-one products or kits that reduce or remove the appearance of scratches and blemishes while omitting kits that require the meticulous application of touch-up paint.
