The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is awarding $6.6 million through the Title X family planning program to address increased need for family planning services where restrictive laws and policies have impacted reproductive health access. This competitive grant opportunity addressing dire family planning needs was announced as part of a series of recent actions HHS took to protect patients and health care providers in response to the Texas Law SB 8. Today’s awards will go to entities in seven states, including Texas, and were made possible by funds from the American Rescue Plan.

The National Clinical Care Commission, a federal advisory committee established by the National Clinical Care Commission Act of 2017 – PDF, recently released its final report outlining recommendations to improve diabetes awareness, prevention, and treatment. The report called for additional federal efforts to improve access to health care, address social determinants of health, and improve trans-agency collaboration.

Title X is the only federal grant program dedicated solely to providing individuals with comprehensive family planning and related preventive health services in communities across the U.S.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office on Women’s Health recently announced the State, Local, Territorial, and Tribal Partnership Programs to Reduce Maternal Deaths Due to Violence. The funding opportunity will provide more than $4.1 million in cooperative agreement awards to reduce deaths among pregnant and post-partum women due to violence.
