We’re getting ahead of HIV.
Ending the HIV epidemic in the U.S. by 2030 is possible by scaling testing, prevention, treatment, and response activities to areas with high rates of HIV. America’s HIV Epidemic Analysis Dashboard (AHEAD) supports this effort by tracking data on 6 HIV indicators that will have the greatest impact on ending the epidemic in local communities and across the U.S.
National Progress
AHEAD displays Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. (EHE) indicator data for all 50 states with a focus on 57 priority areas. Tracking this data at the community level serves to highlight our progress as a nation.
U.S. States & Priority Areas
Ending the HIV epidemic starts at the community level. AHEAD facilitates easy, seamless access to data for EHE priority areas and the American public, focusing on 48 counties, Washington, DC and San Juan, Puerto Rico along with 7 priority states, mostly Southern and rural, with high rates of HIV. AHEAD also shows data for the 43 remaining states for which data are available.
The Six EHE Indicators
AHEAD is a data visualization tool designed to display data on the six indicators for each of the Phase I jurisdictions. Future iterations of AHEAD will be interactive and allow for more comprehensive analysis of the data at the national and jurisdictional levels.
Overarching Goal
The EHE initiative aims to reduce new HIV infections in the United States by 75% in five years and by 90% in 10 years.
Midterm Goal
This indicator will be used to show the historical movement towards achieving the overall goals of the EHE initiative.
Leading Indicators
The leading national indicators demonstrate movement towards meeting the overarching goals of the EHE initiative and are updated frequently.
Diagnoses
Diagnoses is the number of people with HIV diagnosed in a given year confirmed by laboratory or clinical evidence.
Linkage to HIV Medical Care
Linkage to HIV medical care is the percentage of people with HIV diagnosed in a given year who have received medical care for their HIV infection within one month of diagnosis.
Viral Suppression
Viral suppression is the percentage of people living with diagnosed HIV infection in a given year who have an amount of HIV that is less than 200 copies per milliliter of blood.
PrEP Coverage
PrEP coverage is the estimated percentage of individuals with indications for PrEP classified as having been prescribed PrEP.
