ViacomCBS and Comcast have reached a distribution renewal that continues carriage of CBS and a roster of cable networks on the No. 1 cable system in the U.S. while also deepening the companies’ streaming ties.

The agreement follows a similarly comprehensive one reached earlier this week between Comcast and WarnerMedia. Comcast also closed a key agreement with Disney in late-2021. While cord-cutting is continuing to erode pay-tv revenue.

The multi-year ViacomCBS deal includes carriage for ViacomCBS networks like CBS, BET, CBS Sports Network, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop TV, Smithsonian Channel and Showtime. It also extends the availability of streaming services Paramount+, Pluto TV and Showtime Ott on Xfinity, as well as adding BET+ to the fold.

With 18.55 million residential customers as of last September, Comcast Cable is the largest cable system in the U.S. The company has also moved aggressively into broadband video, with Flex. The

NBC has given a put pilot order to a followup to the early ’90s drama series “Life Goes On,” with original series star Kellie Martin set to return.

The new iteration of the show was first announced as being in the works back in September as part of Nkechi Okoro Carroll’s new overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.

Okoro Carroll will write and executive produce the show under her Rock My Soul Productions banner. Lindsay Dunn of Rock My Soul will also executive produce, while Martin and Chad Lowe will produce. Michael Braverman serves as executive consultant. Lowe appeared

Paramount Network’s “Yellowstone” is finally a major television awards contender after four seasons thanks to the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards. The family western drama is nominated in the top category of ensemble in a television drama alongside “Succession,” “Squid Game,” “The Morning Show” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.” The nomination is the first major awards recognition for “Yellowstone,” which up until now only boasted one Creative Arts Emmys nomination for production design for a narrative contemporary program (one hour or more). “Yellowstone” was also nominated at the American Society of Cinematography awards in 2019 for cinematography in a regular series for commercial television.

Sharon Stone has joined HBO Max’s “The Flight Attendant” for Season 2, playing the mother of star Kaley Cuoco’s Cassie Bowden, Variety has learned.

“The Flight Attendant” Season 2 will see Academy Award-nominee Stone join in the recurring role of Lisa Bowden , Cassie’s estranged mother who would prefer to stay estranged. After a lifetime of dealing with Cassie’s alcoholism, she no longer has any patience or goodwill to spare.

Along with Cuoco and Stone, the cast for “The Flight Attendant” Season 2 includes returning series regulars Zosia Mamet, Griffin Matthews, Deniz Akdeniz and Rosie Perez, as well as new series regulars Mo McRae,

CBS on Thursday announced that an unaired interview with the late Bob Saget will be shown during Friday’s edition of CBS Mornings (airing at 7/6c).

Conducted on Dec. 6, the in-depth Q&a sees the Full House actor sit down with CBS News’ chief medical correspondent Dr. Jon Lapook to discuss how “turning to comedy helped him get through tough times in his life,” including losing his sister Gay to scleroderma in 1994.

Fox’s upcoming country music drama “Monarch” will no longer debut at midseason as originally planned.

The series, which boasts Susan Sarandon and Trace Adkins among its cast, was originally meant to premiere on Sunday, Jan. 30, immediately after the NFC Championship game on Fox. It would then shift to Tuesday nights beginning Feb. 1 for the remainder of its first season. Instead, the show will now debut as part of broadcaster’s the fall 2022 schedule. Replacement programming for the Jan. 30 and subsequent Tuesday timeslots are expected to be announced in the coming days.
