Whether you’re an Arizonan who would like to see your government in action, or bring your class to the Capitol, or planning to include a visit to Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza as part of an Arizona tour, you’re welcome to spend the day at the Arizona Capitol.
Arizona Capitol Museum
The Arizona Capitol Museum is located in the 1901 statehouse building, and features exhibits that tell the story of government in the 48th state.
1700 W Washington St, Phoenix.
Hours: Monday-Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm
No admission charge.
Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza
Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza is home to more than thirty memorials, including a World War II Memorial, “Salute the Fallen,” with guns from the USS Arizona and USS Missouri. Pick up a map to the memorials inside the Capitol Museum. The plaza has paved walkways, benches and grassy areas, but does not have picnic tables or restrooms.
Located between West Jefferson and Adams streets, east of 17th Avenue.
Hours: Sunrise to sunset.
Copper Dome
A copper dome sits atop the historic Capitol building, with a Winged Victory weather vane. Initially the dome was light gray until 1975 when the entire roof was covered in copper. New copper was placed on the dome in 2011 in preparation for the 2012 statehood centennial.
Arizona Legislature
The Arizona Legislature is housed in buildings flanking the historic Capitol Building. The session starts the second Monday of January each year. The House of Representatives and the Senate are located directly in front of the Old Capitol building, and the Executive Tower is directly behind (and connected via the 1938 addition).
