A top ranking city
In 2014, Canberra scored a perfect 10 for income, safety and civic engagement on the OECD well-being scale. The region has also achieved scores between 9.1 and 9.9 for all other categories, which include jobs, education, health, environment, and access to services. Canberra is clean, pollution free and small enough to make travelling around Canberra quick and easy. Parking is also much easier to access than in other capital cities. Recreation and attractions
Dine at one of the many restaurants or visit the museums and art galleries, theatres, live music venues and clubs. Some of the popular national attractions include the Australian War Memorial, the Australian Botanic Gardens and the Canberra Glassworks, and we host many events throughout the year including Floriade and the Hot Air Balloon Festival. Canberra also boasts world class sporting facilities, green space, national parks, schools and universities.
Canberra is close to the beautiful beaches of the south coast of New South Wales, the ski fields in the Snowy Mountains, and just a three hour drive from Sydney.
Travelling around Canberra
The city is designed as a series of satellite town centres joined by main arterial roads, with Civic at the centre. Canberra's public bus service, ACTION buses, operates every day of the year and has services that cover the major sights and most suburbs easily. Canberra also has a great network of on-road cycle lanes and off-road paths, connecting the town centres.
