David J. Anderson

Anderson, David J. of Minneapolis, age 80, passed away peacefully from cancer on October 27. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Gretchen; children Alicia (John Rader) and Alex (Mary Certain); three nieces and three nephews; best man Fred Frogner; and many friends and extended family. Preceded in death by parents Eileen & Irvin; sister Karen Bonawitz; uncle Allan Larson; and nephew Allan Bonawitz.

He conducted the Benson High School band, and dreamt of being an orchestra conductor. He graduated in 1959, then earned bachelor degrees in music and history from the University of Minnesota. In an era of massive social change, he worked in campus housing administration, and went on to become the University's first Director of Housing, while also earning a master's degree in music. After leaving the University, he spent a decade as a management consultant. In 1987, he turned a hobby into a career by joining France 44 Wines and Spirits. This position reinforced his and Gretchen's shared love of travel, culture, and gastronomy. But it was music that imbued and sustained him throughout his life.

David was a gentleman and scholar who made new friends easily, even in the hospital at the very end. A celebration of life is planned for spring 2022.
