Maple Grove shook off early jitters, put up a 21-point burst in the second quarter, and pulled away to beat Eden Prairie 35-3 in the Class 6A semifinals. The Crimson advance to next week’s Prep Bowl for the first time in program history.
A pair of Maple Grove turnovers in the first quarter led to an Eden Prairie 3-0 lead, but that was the only success the Eagles would have. Maple Grove turned things around in the second quarter and took control of the game. Jacob Anderson caught a 33-yard scoring pass from quarterback Jacob Kilzer, Derrick Jameson broke off a 77-yard touchdown run and Anderson, in a defensive role, returned a fumble 38-yards to help the Crimson to a 21-3 halftime lead.
Maple Grove added two more touchdowns in the second half and Eden Prairie never threatened thereafter.
Jameson finished with 15 carries for 138 yards and two touchdowns for Maple Grove (11-1).. Eden Prairie finished 10-2.
