George Kingsley Roth was appointed to Fiji in the Colonial Administrative Service in 1928 where he remained until his death in 1957. During this period, in 1953, 1955 and 1957, he made field recordings of music including examples of dance gongs, stamping tubes, yanggona ceremonial chants and Fijian nose flute music.
